Medicare

Post by Pam » Sun May 09, 2010 4:44 am

Hi Everyone,

Well I've been a CPAP user now for around 3 years, and have recently turned 65, ugh , anyway I am now on medicare. I did a search but most of the posting were older and I would like to know what Medicare will let you get and how often. For a machine, masks, hose, filter, etc.

I saw were they have you rent the machine? Would that still apply to me since I have been using a machine for a couple years now?

Thanks for all your help
Pam

If you currently own your machine, no they will not make you rent a new one.

However, if you ever need to get a NEW machine then yes, it will start off as a rental and then convert to a purchase.

As for how often and when you can get supplies, it can vary a bit by location. I'd suggest calling your equipment provider and ask them - they should be able to tell you.

You should also ask your current provider IF the sleep study and Dx they have on file for you will meet the Medicare guidelines. If it doesn't Medicare may not honor anything.

Better yet, contact Medicare directly to get an unbiased opinion. Many providers will tell people to get another PSG when their Ins. or Medicare will pay again just because they WILL pay again.

Good Luck

I had been on cpap for a a few years before medicare ( paid out of pocket). I asked for a new smaller auto from my Dr and got it. I kind of wish I would have waited for new PR One or s9 to come out but then again I didn't know they were coming out.. lol. So don't ask for one unless you need one right away. Mine is paid for now after 13 months and I can sell it or whatever. But I have another 47 months if I want medicare to pay for another "latest and greatest machine". Heck I probably will just get a new one on my own before then.

OH ..and you will LOVE medicare.
