AHI suddenly up. How to troubleshoot?
AHI suddenly up. How to troubleshoot?
Hi all, I have been a CPAPer now since Feb or so. I have the machine that give you your seven and 30-day AHI averages but not nightly data. My AHI has always been an enviable 2.0-3.5. Now, my seven day average is up to 7.5 and has climbed each night for the past week. My 7-day large leak rate is 0.0. I have been rotating through the same two masks for a while now. The FitLife and the Liberty. My first night on the Liberty, I had my lowest 7-night average ever! Nothing seems wrong. My husband says I am having more leg movement at night. I assume this is b/c my body is trying to get me to breath. I do not wake up during the night with air seeping from either mask. Unless the amount is so small I can't detect it. Is it as simple as needing a higher pressure? I cannot adjust my own pressure (another topic entirely- I am PO'd about this) or I would just try this. Any guidance?

Re: AHI suddenly up. How to troubleshoot?
I have a Resmed, so am not familiar with your cpap. However, I think I've read here that there is a way to re-set your cpap, to get the daily data. Try doing a search. I think you need more information, that your daily data might give you. Is software available for your cpap?
I would suggest checking your cpap system. Filter, hose fittings, humidifier settings, mask and headgear, to make sure they are working as they should.
Did you have leg movements during your titration?
Any other life changes that could be disturbing your sleep, eg. changes in diet, exercise, health, stress, medications, bedtime, room temperature or humidity, outside noises? Comfort items, like pillow and mattress? There are so many factors that affect how we sleep, I would suggest going through all you can think of, to identify if there have been any changes.
I have found that if I am stressed or go to bed too late, my AHI goes up, but it is Central apneas, so in that case, raising the pressure would not help. Or if I am restless because the room is too warm, I have more hypopneas.

Re: AHI suddenly up. How to troubleshoot?
I don't have the same machine as you, but I am going through the same thing. My AHI has been below 2 and now its almost 5. It is really bugging me because I can feel the difference. No leaks and no mask changes. I use cold humidity because I can't stand the warm air. I'm going to try it without the humid. tonight. Re: AHI suddenly up. How to troubleshoot?
Well, last night I cleaned everything well, checked filter and raised my pressure from 11 to 12. This small increase blew both of my masks off of my face. Seven-day AHI average decreased despite the leaks. I guess I'll go back down to my prescribed 11 tonight. Don't know how I hit 13 during the sleep study. Oh, yea, now I remember, the sleep tech kept coming in the room and tightening the mask to my face like I was on the space shuttle. Thanks for all the input folks.
