S8 Elite II - What data is available for download.
S8 Elite II - What data is available for download.
I have a Resmed S8 Elite II CPAP unit and am considering the purchase of a Card Reader to download the available data.
What data is available? And is it actually that useful?
Your help/knowledge is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: S8 Elite II - What data is available for download.
you can get all kinds of data off of it when you use it , you can lean how when you had apneas and how severe the same for hypopnias. Leak rates and when. Armed with that kind of data you can get a much better idea on what is going on with your therapy. I dont have a card reader i just use the display on the machine. I dont get any where near that kind of data from the display. As soon as i can swing one i want to get one. i think it is pretty important if you are having some issues to have one to get a handle on them.I tried to scan the sheet they gave me when i went for my doc visit they used a reader and pulled up some pretty cool data on a nice easy to read sheet. I wish i had that reader right now as i have been having some issues getting my ai and ahi rates lower. i would like to compare the sheets now and then to see what is going on with my therapy. Knowledge is power

Re: S8 Elite II - What data is available for download.
Thanks for the feedback.
I think I am going to order a reader from CPAP Australia. I was going to order a generic reader, but there seems to be alot of problems with the generic version.
When I try to pull up the data from my S8 I only seem to get data for the last week, month and year. This just seems to be useless.
I do not like the idea of sleeping blind and my sleep clinic has provided absolutely no follow-up since my prescription was issued 1 1/2 years ago.
And I prefer to do it myself.
Thanks

I sent you a PM with some useful stuff
Re: S8 Elite II - What data is available for download.
Tiber i think you will be happy with the data you can pull up when you get the right reader.

With an S8 Elite II you'll get detailed time series data, primarily rendered in graphical form, for the duration of the relevant session(s) for:Tiberious wrote:What data is available?
Leak
Pressure
AHI
Events (Apneas and hypopneas)
You can expand out the graphs to level of detail which shows a 10 second period across the width of the screen
You can display the daily summary data as a time series over however long you have been accumulating data in ResScan.
You can enter free text notes about particular circumstances that may have effected your sleep on specfic days, or setting changes, or whatever
You can produce printed reports if you want have something to take alongto discuss with a sleep clinician (etc)
For me, definitely yes.Tiberious wrote: And is it actually that useful?

I believe it is essential. Therapy changes from time to time and especially at the beginning when settings are not properly dialed in, or as when my husband recently had surgery and his data was all over the place for a few weeks. I was able to see what was happening and making adjustments as necessary.

In order to see the daily data on the machine's LCD screen, you need to check before noon each day. The data for the previous night is erased each day at noon. If you check after noon, then all you'll see are averages for the last week, month and year.Tiberious wrote:When I try to pull up the data from my S8 I only seem to get data for the last week, month and year. I think that the software is most helpful in determining whether the apneas/hypopneas are occurring in clusters, how long the apneas last, and whether apneas are directly associated with leaks.

What is considered to be a bad leak rate?
13.4 pressure - EPR 2 - on Cpap since 2004

ResMed allows you to select a mask type on the S8 II.
That means it automatically reduces your leak by that amount...
so when you mask pressure/ leak is correct and you get the seal perfect...
You will have a leak of 0.0 That is the challenge.
ResMed also suggested that an acceptable leak is anything less than 24 liters/ minute...
the Red Line of your ResScan.
But leaks can interfere with therapy by reducing pressure and may induce the machine to record false Apnea Events.

Re: S8 Elite II - What data is available for download.
Thank you for all your responses.
I have ordered a Resmed Card Reader from CPAP Australia. The unit should be here within a couple weeks.
It would be nice to be able to review high rate flow data like that available with the S9 but apparently that is only possible with the S8 ResLink unit. I only got my machine January 2009 so I am not eligible for an upgrade until January 2014!!!
Does anyone know where I might find a S8 Reslink unit and how much it might cost. It appears that the unit has been discontinued.
Thanks

Re: S8 Elite II - What data is available for download.
I found a leak chart in a S7 clinician manual. The data that would be useful to me in litres/sec (L/S)
litres/sec
0.00 - 0.09 Excellent
0.10 - 0.19 Very Good
0.20 - 0.29 Good
0.30 - 0.39 Adjust mask **
0.40 - 0.49 Adjust Mask *
>.50 = high leak
