I would like advice on my pressure. HI 3.9? Software needed?

Post by bigboyga » Tue May 04, 2010 11:40 pm

when i had a my first and only sleep study done in Nov 2008 i studied up here quite a bit before i went in and i have learned lots on here since being diagnosed. i thought i was the best idea at the time to request a split night study which my doctor was hesitant about, but went ahead with it. they wrote me up for 9.5 presssure but it only tested me for 67 minutes at that pressure. at that point they woke me up and said it was time for me to leave. and here i was finally getting a good hours sleep! but that is why i sometimes wish i would not have done the split study as then there would have been a longer testing time. after starting from 5.0 and climbing it up. anyway my machine tells me that my ai is .0@week, .2@month, .3@6 months, .3@year and hi is 3.9@week. 3.5@month. 3.6@6 month, and 3.9@year. is the rescan software something that i can buy and download from my card and get even more details like a sleep study so i could better understand my ais and help me learn more or what is this rescan software i hear about. about 5 months ago i raised my pressure to 10.0 to try an lower my ai but it has only seemed to help about .2 from what i remember. are these numbers ok or should they be as close to 0.0 as possible. i have not had much luck with my doctor and have never heard the first word from him since i left his office with my sleep study in 2008 so i dont have any local support to rely on. also what does most insurance companies view the life of a cpap machine. i would like to upgrade to an s9 but not sure when or if my insurance will pay for a new machine.

Tracking software is always a good idea. I don't have any clue about the Resmed products though, someone who knows more will come along I'm sure.

How are you feeling? Are you still feeling tired or are you just interested in tracking your sleep stats?

You know, if you really need to talk to your doctor, just make an appointment and talk to him/her!! Yes, doctors fail us all the time. Does that mean we need to give up? NO! Go back or find another doctor! Take charge of your own health, don't wait for someone else to do that for you. If YOU don't watch out for #1, why should they?

As far as your insurance goes it is probably best to call them as most have different schedules for replacing durable medical. For instance my insurance company United Healthcare will replace my CPAP every 3 years. Some are 5 years and some are less as far as the machine itself goes.

Your numbers are great (you are looking for an AI under 5.0 - 5.0 or below is NORMAL). I expect you can still get the ResScan software and a card reader. I have both and used it a lot when I got it (on a Windows XP laptop). I do not use it often now except to create the report to send to my sleep doctor now and then. I keep a record each day of my 95% pressure, my leak, my AI, HI and AHI and my hours used and that keeps me on top of my therapy without any need to use the ResScan software. If you search posts here you may find a place to get the software and card reader. For some time now my numbers have been low (all way under 5.0) so I just check every morning and record my numbers without using the software.

Where did you get your CPAP? Ask them when you can get it replaced and if they will replace it with a S9.
