How to tweak Mirage Liberty MasK?
Dear Friends,
John (my newbie husband) is trying out the Liberty but is having some trouble. The nasal pillows seem to be the right size, but one just doesn't want to tuck in properly once he settles his mouth mask. Either he gets the nose pillows to seal and the mouth leaks, or the mouth is good but the nasal pillow is not fitting right.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Regards,
Jersey Girl

Jersey girl,
Make sure the headgear is mostly towards the back side of the head so that the nasal pillows are compressed at 50% and then make sure that the bottom straps are fairly tight. This way it will prevent the nasal pillows from leaking and also the mouth cushion from leaking as well. I use the papcap then I buit on my mirage liberty making sure the headgear is mostly towards the back of my head. I hope this helps you in fixing your husbands mirage liberty.
Sincerely,
Chad

I quit using the Liberty. It would inflate my nose and the top of the mouthpiece would hurt my upper gum
Re: How to tweak Mirage Liberty MasK?
I had trouble with this mask at first. I went to the small pillows and tape. I put the tape around the pillow and the outer part of each nare to help seal it on the outside and push the pillow in toward the center of my face. This works great together with getting the head gear adjusted. I find when I get a leak early in the morning, all I have to do is shift my mask slightly to the right, as I sleep on my left side. I found this out on morning when I got out of bed to see why it was leaking. I also try to get the mask up high enough, so as not to put so much pressure on my upper lip. It just takes some tweaking to get where it is comfortable. Good luck!

You may want to check the sizing on both nostrils. I have several people who have nares that are slightly different sizes. If that is the case you can cut the connector in between the pillows and use 2 different sizes.

Re: How to tweak Mirage Liberty MasK?
Dear Friends,
After finally sleeping last night holding his nasal pillows in place all night on the Liberty, we gave up after 4 nights as John getting really frustrated. He yelled out in the middle of the night, "This is bullss*%%$!." So, I knew he was at his end with this mask.
I drove down to the DME and picked up a Mirage Quatro. Will let you know if he gets a good seal and is able to finally sleep well tonight. He is also using a contour memory foam cpap pillow with cutouts for his mask.
We got the dr. to order the climateline for the s9 through the DME via prescription so that we wouldn't have to pay out of pocket, but at the moment are using the slimline. No rain out yet - but I have to turn up the humidity for him tonight. I like my humidity at 1.5 in the spring but as John is a mouth breather, last night he said it was just way too dry for him. So, I gave him more water in his humidifier and we'll see how it goes.
Regards to all,
Jersey Girl

Hi JG
You'll probably find that humidity settings with the S9 are less than with your S8. Starting point for humidity might be 3.0.
At least for me it works that way... don't be surprised if he yells out with lower settings.

Thanks Nord. Very good to know. Will up his humidity to 3.5 and see how that is for tonight.

Love my Hybrid...never could get the Liberty to quit leaking. While similar, these masks fit quite differently. Hubby might wanna try the Hybrid and try Rooster's ladies tight fix: viewtopic.php?t=14422&highlight=
I use 2 small ponyrail scrunchies looped together and thru each top strap across the front the face on the outside of the pillows provides the perfect amt of pressure to hold pillows in place...for me.

Re: How to tweak Mirage Liberty MasK?
Sorry he's having so much trouble. Maybe it's not the mask for him. And maybe you're past this point. But, I've had success using my version of Rooster's tights fix. I just tie a shoelace around my head--the tighter the better without hurting myself. It goes under the nasal pillows and has the effect of pushing them up somewhat into my nares to get a better seal.
I actually got the Hybrid last time I ordered a new mask from Apria and haven't slept a night with it yet. I was frustrated but by the time it came and I was fiddling with it, my Liberty was working well again (seems to go in cycles) so I'm afraid to switch and not sleep well.
Good luck to John!
