Resmed card reader + software
Resmed card reader + software
I did a search on this, but it always seems to be handled by PM. I've looked on https://www.cpap.com, but the Resmed software and card reader no longer seem to be offered for sale. Does anyone know where I can legally get the software and card reader for the Resmed AutoSet II? I looked on Ebay, but all they have are masks and such.

Re: Resmed card reader + software
I was told by the DMS that you need a script from the doc to get the software.
Because w/the software you can edit the flow settings.
Not sure if this is true.
Just what the med supply place told me

Re: Resmed card reader + software
Hi, I am also very interested in this since I would like to purchase an S8 autoset II but in my country the doctors do not have the software and so I would need to access the data and print it out for them to interprete.
Re: Resmed card reader + software
You can edit the settings in the software - that is correct.
You can buy the software and reader from http://www.cpapaustralia.com.au without a script etc.

Re: Resmed card reader + software
Perhaps I'm totally off my rocker, but I can re-set my Resmed device, I just don't know what I'm doing, so it's trial and error for me. I don't have any software, but I figured out how to manipulate the buttons like the DME does, it's a lot like setting an old digital type watch, which I still happen to wear. Am I missing something

You're right, Pat, software is not needed for changing the settings.Patth9 wrote:Perhaps I'm totally off my rocker, but I can re-set my Resmed device, I just don't know what I'm doing, so it's trial and error for me. I don't know if the following is true of you machine, the VPAP, but on the other S8 series machines, holding down the right and left buttons for 3 seconds will get you into the "Review" menu, on which you can then review Settings, Efficacy and Usage. I like that menu because its a read only menu -- not need to careful about changing setting unintentionally. Try it if you haven't yet. The Review menu is there (according to the manual) so the DME can call you on the phone and ask patients for all that info.
Software is most helpful when you need troubleshoot because is shows you when things happen. For instance, without software, I would never know that most of my apnea are recorded when I have massive leaks.

Re: Resmed card reader + software
Thanks, OZIJ, that makes a lot of sense regarding the need for software. See, I'm learning new information again.Software is most helpful when you need troubleshoot because is shows you when things happen. For instance, without software, I would never know that most of my apnea are recorded when I have massive leaks.
Actually, I can change the settings. I've changed the rise time from 500m5 to 650m5. Assuming I know what I'm talking about, the inhale/exhale times were set too close together, barely giving me enough time to inhale. Now, it feels more natural.
I would like to know what usage data means, if you please.
Efficacy Data =
Leak
VT
Resp Rate
MV
AHI
AI
%SPONT (T:100%)
%SPONT (C:)
Perhaps definitions for these items are posted somewhere on the great site, but I've not been able to locate the information.
It seems to me that an individual should be taught what these abbreviations mean and how to tweak their own devices, who better to know what feels comfortable, and besides, it can be weeks/months until one is in a doctor's office or sees a DME? My DME tries, but I'm sitting upright as he adjusts the unit and even when I tell him it's too fast, he pretends to adjust the device, but it hasn't changed. I know, because I wrote down all the settings before he came. I think he forgot that I told him I knew how to fully change the settings. I leave the pressures alone, however, they feel just right.
Please understand, I'm new at this, and I know I could be totally off the wall with my comments.
Thanks Again,
Patt

You can try: http://www.cpapaustralia.com.au People use to be able to purchase the card reader and software from this site, not sure if that is still true.

Thanks gpk111, I've read up and down the list of questions/answers, but I still don't know what these abbreviations/words mean.

Re: Resmed card reader + software
HA! I've been Goggling for software, and found some of the answers to my abbreviations/words.
Efficacy Data = capacity or power to produce a desired effect from the dictionary
Leak = guessing times the mask sounds a leak
VT = tidal volume = the volume of air inspired or expired in one respiratory cycle (breath) usually liters, maybe milliliters
MV = minute ventilation = volume of air breathed in (or out) w/in any 60 second period, usually liters.
Resp Rate= Breaths per minute
AHI = apnea hypopnea index = the number of apneas and hypopneas you experienced per hour
AI = apnea index = the number of apneas you experienced per hour
%Spont T = % spontaneous triggered breaths = percentage of patient breaths that were spontaneously triggered (initiation of IPAP).
%Spont C = % spontaneous cycled breaths = percentage of patient breaths that were spontaneously cycled (termination of IPAP and changing to EPAP). ...
HI = hypopnea index - the number of hypopneas you experienced per hour
subtract the HI from the AHI to get your AI (HI doesn't show up on my data report)

When the Manuf. say they won't sell the software to us bc you can change the settings - I think that is just BS....do they not know you don't need software to change things? Or do they think we don't know? Maybe they just think we are all too dumb to find out?

Re: Resmed card reader + software
Good for you!
All the definitions sound exactly right except "Leak." I've always seen that expressed as the "leak rate" in Liters per unit time.

Re: Resmed card reader + software
Leak = an estimate of the total rate of air escaping due to mouth and mask leaks. It is derived by analyzing the inspiratory and expiratory air flows together w/the expected vent flows (allowed mask vent rate). High or changing leak rates amy affect the accuracy of other measurements. (Usually reported as Liters per Minute, i.e. L/M or less frequently Liters per Second, i.e. L/s).

Thanks for the responses, everyone! I would have responded sooner but between work and going back to school I've been SO busy!
Patth9, I had the same problem with inhale/exhale timings during my last sleep study. I couldn't take a full breath in, and they didn't seem to be able to fix that! Fortunately, the settings on the machine I have are fine, and I don't feel the need to adjust them. Just want the data so I can see how well it's actually working for me without the drive to the doctor's office, or waiting for my next appointment. I like to track these types of things myself.
I don't think I want to spend that kind of money on a card reader, though. The lowest price I found was $70. I might try the "homemade" version I saw someone on here had done, with an ACR38U-SPC-R card reader. Proprietary hardware sucks! If it were SD I could get the data for under $5. *rolls eyes*
