Anybody ever use "cure my snore" "MAD"

Post by park_ridge_dave » Thu Apr 15, 2010 10:49 am

In researching Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) I see that our vaunted FDA has decided that we poor sheep are incapable of any kind of rational thought. So we residents of the USA are not allowed to order devices except through "health professionals" (actually we can order; the suppliers are prohibited from shipping them to the USA ).

However, as an "end around" some vendors are supplying "snore limiting devices" that "gasp" allow us to reposition the lower part (advance the mandible ).

Anyway, I found a place that supposedly supplies a "Fit kit" that you use to get a tooth impression (upper and lower) and then their lab makes an appliance.

The outfit is at http://www.curemysnore.com

Has anybody used them (their website reminds me of an infomercial that should run at about 3:00am)?

Am I too cynical?

What was your experience?

I would really like the Tomed Somoguard AP MAD but they won't ship to the USA

Anybody that has info or recommendations for a product let me know.Cheers,

Dave

Hi park_ridge_dave

If you know someone outside the US, perhaps they can order it for you, and then mail it to you in the US.

Supposedly the SomnoGuard AP and SP are very good boil-and-bite MADs with a large sales volume in Europe.

I understand that Therapy Control Products, Canada, ships them to the U.S. http://www.nosnorezone.com/

Nice comparison chart: http://www.nosnorezone.com/somnoguard-s ... rt-sp.html

If you go for it please update this thread.

Thanks.

(Yes, like we are poor children and need the FDA to protect us from using a MAD. Disgusting events in our beloved country.)

BTW Dave, Can you figure out which patient anatomy/condition is best suited for AP or SP? That seems like a tough choice to make without any experience with the devices. The SP requires a shorter vertical clearance between the teeth. But the AP is infinitely adjustable and has thousands of happy customers in Europe and elsewhere.

Good questions Roster. I will get in touch with some of my friends in the "Business" and see what I can find out. I used to fight for the "dark side" when I was a Pharma remediation consultant . I even did some work at Respironics before Phillips took over. So let me see what I can find out.

I really think that I need a MAD based on some discussions with my various doctor friends, as well. But this is worthy of some investigation. If I come up with any significant info. I'll be sure to post.

I really do think it's insane what things pass for "safeguards" (given the seemingly endless contradictions that the FDA promulgates).

I am adding this after some more thought.

In evaluating the devices, I felt that the "infinite variable" screw adjustment feature of the AP was of more value to me. I was also worried with those "nubs" that are used with the adjuster straps on the SP might offset the lessened height of the SP. Only time will tell.

Cheers,

Dave
