Graphics from First Night with CPAP

Post by Hodr » Tue Apr 13, 2010 4:05 pm

Ok, I pulled the data and here are the charts (from S9 Autoset).

I went with CPAP mode, 7 cmH20 (my titrated setting), no ramp, humidity 3.5.

I fell asleep on my back (my worst position for SA) at 11:30pm and subjectively I felt like I slept straight through to 5:00am when I woke up and went to the rest room. I went back to bed until 7:00am, however I woke several times and was uncomfortable during these two hours. When I got up, and when repositioning my mask I never turned the machine off so that may mess with the flow / leak numbers.

I wasn't aware that I had issues with centrals, but they show up on the stats.

Also, my events seem to be for fairly long durations. What do you guys think?

*I had planned to build up about a weeks worth of data before moving from CPAP mode to APAP.

Hi Hodr... welcome to S9 World.

Didn't see this post before...

Supine (back) is generally the worst for OSA's... gravity takes it's place.

Not sure if you have "issues" with Centrals... you need a lot more evidence to know that. You say you fell asleep at 11:30 and that's when the first Central takes place... you may have been holding your breath... rolling over etc.

Your Leaks prior to 5 AM do not look wonderful... you may have leaks more than you know. Your Snore Index indicates a possibility of mouth leak as well. This was first night and you now have a lot more data to look at. You are your own best advocate for your health... do you see anything that concerns you ???

Your Apnea events here are neither plentiful nor that long at this point... Your decision to stay at you titrated 7 cm for now is a good idea to get some reference point. Since you had a PSG where 7 cm was indicated to be best help your AHI... you should take a good look before moving on.

Please post your equipment and pressures to get better help next time.

Thanks for the information.

I currently have an S9 Autoset w/ the H5i humidifier and the slimline tubing (climatline is supposedly on order). The mask I use is a full face mask (the resmed quatro) so mouth leaks shouldn't be a problem. I use the full face mask because I often cannot breathe adequately through my nose. I have it set in CPAP mode to 7cmH2o and have the humidifier set to 3.5

My second nights data is very similar to the first night, except that I woke up at 2:00am (had no events prior to this time) and had all of my events after. While I can read the graphs, and understand what they portray, I am not sure what constitutes an acceptable level of leak or how many events I should target.

I did wake up with a headache today, however, after the excedrine kicked in I think I may have felt somewhat more refreshed than I normally do.

I would work on leaks first. If you see the red line in the leak chart, that is the highest the machine can compensate for a leak. Did you tell the machine you are using a full face mask? The S9 doesn't include the expected leak for a mask type in the leak chart.
