I just had thoughts of you jumping about bearfoot on hot asphalt after a day of 115 degree high temperatures here in Arizona
Seriously how do those Vibram Five Fingers hold up on the hot asphalt?
I am currently experiencing foot problems for the first time, i left the doctors with generic insoles and foam finger to wear in between my toes. On my way out they tell me they are not covered by insurance and needed $45 for the supplies. This place was worse than a DME i could have got those supplies for $20 in wallgreens.
Oh and he wants to make me some custom insoles for my high arch at a cost of around $300
The Vibram Five Fingers are like a set of manufactured calluses for your feet. They do protect them quite well. Naturally if you spend too much time on hot asphalt your feet will get overheated no matter what shoes you wear.
I would seriously consider spending as much time barefoot as possible to exercise your feet. Numerous studies are beginning to show that these high priced athletic shoes do nothing to protect your feet and in fact may cause more problems. A good read is the book "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall.
In looking back I know my father had undiagnosed sleep apnea and he suffered greatly for it. I WILL NOT go through that. Using a cpap is easy compared to that.

I screwed it up a few months ago. I tried to replace it with something new (and in my mind infinitely funnier) but it didn't work. I need to fix it from home, and it's been low on the list for me. I got a new smartphone and I'm obsessing on that now, instead of my cpap machine. (Verizon Droid)
BTW, completely off topic - I'm also obsessing over "Grey Gardens." I just saw the 1976 documentary. Streamed it from Netflix to my laptop on Sunday night. Been surfing the web and reading everything I can on it ever since. I think I may be channeling Little Edie. Ooooo.... I feel a new Avatar coming on.... In fact, a REVOLUTIONARY Avatar!
Go surf for it yourself, you lazy bozos. Oh heck... You know me too well...

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Ah, in that case, Babette, all is forgiven. Accidents will happen, and most likely when we're trying out new things....invention is the mother of (what amounts to) ineptitude...?
Looking forward one day to seeing you new and improved!
Never heard of Grey Gardens, although that's my era , looking at the link now. Interesting story.

Grandma, if Rooster sent it to you to, I have dibs on it for an Avatar!
No, just kidding. I really am sorta smitten with the idea of posting a pic of Little Edie. I just need some time at home with my Photobucket. Recent spate of spring cleaning has me busy with that though, for the time being. Gee, I wonder if watching Grey Gardens triggered my need to clean?

Alright Rooster, Grandmma, Babette; now that you have thoroughly hijacked this thread, Babette's new avatar must be posted!! Let's see it!

Craig,
I did an 8-mile run over our two little peaks this morning. As I was headed to the parking lot a guy was coming in wearing Five-Fingers KSO. He was getting ready for a hike over some very rocky terrain with his kids. He said this would be his first day wearing them except for an extensive trial around the house.
I would have loved to be there when he returned. If I ever try them on a hike, first time out I will carry a pair of traditional hikers in my backpack.
Did someone call me Imelda Marcos?
Gotta be prepared.

Nope, no idea what you're both talking about, just noticed the 'average' avatar; loved the old to bits. No intention of changing mine; I guess it reflects my (often) current attitude!
Rooster, holy moly, that's a collection of joggers/trainers/gymmies/whatever you call them over there! Yikes. Nice and tidy 'though!

i got a pair of shape-ups after I broke some bones in my foot and had pain i in my foot and ankle during the recovery period. I found hem easier to walk with and relieved the pain in my ankle. They also seemed to help take some of the pressure off my back.
My wife spends a lot of time on her feet and decided to try a pair of her own, She found them to be more comfortable than regular sneakers and found they also seemed to relieve pressure on leg and back muscles.
Please don't take our words for it. We're only speaking from experience, unlike those who respond with only opinions and no facts.

If he had the regular KSOs they may be a little too light unless you have spent some time in them and have your feet prepared. I took a few short walks in the area of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in regular KSOs and could feel every rock. For rough country you would be better off with the KSO Trek with a sole that is twice as thick.

Yep, I think the guy bought the wrong ones for hiking in rugged terrain. They looked thin and he told me he paid $85. Looking on the internet I see those are the regulars and the Treks are $125.
I need to get to a store and try them on.

Rooster, send Grandma that picture you sent me. She needs it.
I swear, every time I read this thread, my left foot starts aching again. I don't notice it until I read this thread. Heck, maybe I need a pair of shape-ups now.
KSO's... NO WAY! For one thing, the "feet stink" issue is a big one for me. I can just smell my feet now after a few hours in those. I like the concept, but until they figure out how to make them out of non-stink-producing materials, NOPE!
LOL,
