Finnally getting my S9 APAP
Finnally getting my S9 APAP
Hello all,
I am new to CPAP and have been researching on cpaptalk for over a month now. I have even posted questions and been involved on a couple of chats. Oh how great cpaptalk is! So today I will be going to my DME to pickup my new S9 Autoset. Hopefully tonight will be the first night of my treatment with my new S9. Very excited and I hope I gain some energy with my therapy. Oh yea, will be getting the H5i as well. Not sure which mask yet as I will have to try a couple of them on. However, I finally get to update my profile with my equipment. The only item that I will not be getting today is the Climate line tube for the S9 as my DME doesn't have it in stock. They did tell me that I should be getting it within a week or two. However, I will have to be on top of them to make sure I do get it. This actually will not be to bad as now I can experience the difference between the regular slim hose and the climate line. Well I will keep you posted how my first night went.
Thanks for listening!

Finally getting my S9 APAP
So does the S9 help me spell better? As it looks like I cannot spell now. The subject should be Finally getting my S9 APAP
Re: Finnally getting my S9 APAP
Ha, no the S9 will help you remember more but not spell better Don't worry we all do it.
Good luck with the S9 tonight and make sure you do keep on top of your DME and chase them for the ClimateLine it's so much better than the SlimLine hose.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the encouragement all. I am a heavy sleeper and hope I can sleep the whole night.
Re: Finally getting my S9 APAP
Okay,
So I just left the DME and have my new S9. I went with the Quattro Full face mask as it seemed to be the most comfortable. Only time will tell. First Question. The DME set the S9 Autoset to CPAP mode. Should I try it like this for a bit or should I go ahead and change it to apap? Also, my pressure is set to 15 as this is what the sleep over results was. Now I know for an APAP to work proper it needs to have a small window of pressure. What is your recommendation of pressure setting I should set around the 15?
Side note: I haven't really tested this yet, but does the S9 EPR work with a Full face mask? Is EPR set to "on" out of the box or do we have to turn it on? I am asking as when I was trying the S9 at the DME with a pressure of 15 I was having a really hard time breathing through it. I will try it again when I go home, but just wanted to get cpaptalk's view of it.
Any help us much appreciated!!

Re: Finally getting my S9 APAP
You could just leave it in CPAP mode and not change the pressure at all. Why not try it as is for a week of so?dcarreiro wrote:So I just left the DME and have my new S9. EPR will work with a FFM. It sounds like the DME did not enable it for you. It may be configured so the patient can switch it on/off or you may need to access the clinical menu to do this.Side note: I haven't really tested this yet, but does the S9 EPR work with a Full face mask? Re: Finnally getting my S9 APAP
OK all. Finally had my first night with my S9. I had some good things happen, some things that I was worried\concerned about and some things just went wrong.
Good things - I slept with the S9 Autoset set on CPAP mode at apressuree of 15 for 6.5 hours. Feel fresh in the morning. We will see how the rest of my day goes.
Worried\Concern - My AHI, Total AI, and Central AI are all at 0.0. Leak at 0.0. I was diagnosed with server apnea at 61. I do not expect to have 0.0 the first night. Do you think my machine is defective and not making the correct readings?
Wrong - I woke up at 4:00A.M. and had to take my mask off. I got another 3 hours of sleep with out the CPAP. The only one reason why I needed to take out the mask was that the mask was digging into the bridge of my nose. I tried adjusting it during the night, but no matter what I did, it hurt. I think I have to small of a mask and need to go get a bigger size.
However, if it wasn't for the mask issue I would have slept with the cpap all night. Its to bad as I really wanted to sleep with the cpap all night for the first night. I guess tonight will be another night.
However, at around 4:00A.M. I had to remove my mask.

Re: Finnally getting my S9 APAP
You may want to check your numbers again. Many of the machines do not update until noon based on whatever time zone they are set to. If you check before that time, either nothing will show up or it will still show the data from the previous night.
If there is still no data, you may want to check with your DME.

This is the first day of a many night adventure... you need to use it for a week to give you a better picture of how you're doing.
On the other hand... you felt refreshed and go 6.5 CPAP hrs and 3 hrs w/o... something was working.
A lot of people get most of their Apneas in the AM... try to keep the mask on for more evidence.
Your S9 will give you your numbers whenever you take the SD card out and read them... or just read them from the LCD screen.
There are many Posts to check on how you read your data in ResScan...

Re: Finnally getting my S9 APAP
dcarreiro, as Nord mentioned I would give it a few days to a week or longer. My first night went from 4.5 on my previous machine down to 0.1 on the S9. My AHI off of CPAP was recorded at 141.2, so it's entirely possible you will get some nights as AHI = 0.0
You'll probably find the next few nights will be in the 0.something range, and most likely <2.0.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Finnally getting my S9 APAP
Thanks for the advise. I just got my new masks. I have the quattro medium size now, Hopefully this helps on the nose. And I also brought home a loaner ComfortGel. I will try these out in the next couple of days. Any other suggestions for full face masks?
Re: Finnally getting my S9 APAP
Make sure you change the mask type setting on the S9 to Full Face so that it can accurately track your leak rate.dcarreiro wrote:Any other suggestions for full face masks?

Re: Finnally getting my S9 APAP
Thanks jmelby. Its is set to full face mask. Does anyone know why the S9 will not autostart with a full face mask?
