Best pillow mask available?

Post by bob007 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 2:30 pm

Hi,

I've only been on CPAP for just under 3 weeks. I developed a blister on my nose using a nasal mask and changed it out at the DME for a pillow mask (Res Med Swift LT). After about a week I'm finding the pillow mask comfortable and I'm having very low to no leaks indicated. When I got the mask the DME gave me the one they carry they felt was the best. But I'm wondering now if there are better pillow mask out there. If there is anything I don't like about the mask it would be the straps....but maybe I'm just being too picky. I do a search on here and can't seem to find the right info for my question.

I have tried on many nasal pillows (and nasal and full-face) masks at my local DME. Many people love the Swift LT that you have, but that one didn't work well for me. I can't tolerate anything resting on my upper lip. My two favorite nasal pillows masks (so far) are the Fisher & Paykel Opus 360 and AEIOMed Headrest. They both work great for me, but I know that masks are a very individual thing. The new Swift FX gets good reviews from users, so I want to try that one next myself.

You may want to look at the user ratings and written reviews for the masks at cpap.com. Sometimes that can help to narrow things down. Here's a list of nasal pillows masks, sorted by "rating": https://www.cpap.com/cpap-masks/nasal-p ... rating:20:. You can sort them by "top sellers" or "price" too. Once you have a few good candidates, you can read the user reviews there and search here on the forum as well.

Best wishes with your therapy! I hope that information helps.

If you like the LT stick with it or you could try a Swift FX.

Thanks. It's good to know I have a highly rated one. It is working for me so I will most probably stay with it.

Masks are definitely very personal...there really is no best. In my case I tried lots of masks, had been using the Swift LT when I tried the Aeiomed Headrest - I find the Headrest works very well, is incredibly comfortable, and I really like that nothing rests on my face.

Your Swift LT is one of the more popular masks. You said that it's comfortable and you're getting low/no leaks. Sounds like a keeper to me! You're fortunate to have found one that works well for you early-on.

The FX is at the top of my list to try next time my insurance will pay for a new mask. My DME didn't have it yet when I asked a month or two ago. It looks very light and comfortable!

The manufacturers of the CPAP nasal pillows,in Toronto and everywhere in the country, have designed them to stay attached only to the nostrils. You will, however, still secure the same full benefits of any other CPAP device but with more liberty to move around in your sleep without the encumbrances of a full-face mask.CPAP nasal pillows only fit over your nose, which makes for lesser chances of skin irritations, like the ones above mentioned. And with the variety of sizes, models and cushion types in silicone, plastic and gel as well as in being lightweight, your first option in the medical treatment of sleep should be CPAP nasal pillows.

The BREEZE is another pillow mask that you might look at. Touches the back of the head and the nares only.
