So disappointed! No titration study for Hubby!

Post by Jersey Girl » Fri Mar 26, 2010 4:36 pm

Dear Friends,

My husband was supposed to have his long awaited titration on Sunday evening but the dr's office just called at 5:45 pm to tell us that he needed a new referral. Our referrals are all done on line per our insurance company and the pcp doesn't give us copies, as he is told by ins that he should not - everything is done on line and we cannot download a copy from horizon's patient portion of the website. We did not know that our referral "ran out" and so, no titration study for my very loudly snoring husband this Sunday!

I hate insurance company referral requirements Grrrrrrr....

Your friend,

Jersey Girl

Hi Jerseygirl--I am sorry to hear that your husband can't go for his long awaited sleep study! Man--that is a rotten deal--I hope you can get a speedy referral and get this going again so you both can get some sleep.

Carrie

Oh Jersey Girl that stinks! I know how much you were looking forward to him having it done so you could get answers and hopefully a more peaceful sleep! Hopefully you'll get his referral and titration study done quickly. So sorry you have to wait.

I cant find the post but someone had found an old remstar choice they found on craigslist for $50.00. Just get him that and crank it up as high as it goes. You might want to get something to blow the cobwebs out first though.
You would think that they wouldve given you a little more notice. Hope you get it straightened out soon and get him rescheduled.

I have a extra large cork that I'll mail you if that'll help tide you over. I can't remember which end I used it on though.

Has he ever tried your machine, let's say for a nap? Just to see what happens.

Hi Jersey Girl,

I work in a docs office and do referrals. You have Horizon if I remember correctly from chatting last night, right? Until recently Horizon referrals still had to be hand written, so there shouldn't have been any reason they couldn't give you a copy. Even if they do it "electronically" they can just print it and give it to you. Maybe tell them the med facility requires you to bring a hard copy. Some med providers do not use the online systems and have no way to retrieve online referrals.

I hope this helps.

Dear Friends,

Thanks so much for your replies. No, I haven't just put one of my masks on him....although it's too bad that we cant hook up some kind of y system and have 2 hoses to one cpap!

My PCP's office REFUSES to print copies of my referrals, even though I offered to pay them - they are going by the book as per what Horizon tells them which to just post referrals on line. I am going to call on Monday and ask them to put up a new referral and tell me verbally the cert number, how many visits and the expiration date. I will then keep track of it on my computer. I will also explain why I need this.

In any case, I have already rescheduled his sleep study and will DEFINITELY get a new referral on Monday.

Good things in life are worth waiting for!

I ordered a papcap for him from Brett, hoping that if I can at least keep his mouth shut, maybe the snoring won't be so loud and rumbly. We're going to try it tonight. Will report back tomorrow.

Thanks for all your kindness and support. It is VERY appreciated.

Your friend,

Jersey Girl

Your doctor's office is a bunch of jerks. I'd complain to the doctor about this refusal to give you a copy of a referral and if he won't support you on this I would find another doctor!

Jersey, I feel your frustration! Hope the Papcap helps a bit. Is he scheduled for this week?

Dear Dori,

He is scheduled for a sleep study but not until April - I think the 8th. That should give my doctor's office enough time to do another referral.

You are sweet to even think of John and I during this time with you and Mike. I think about both of you every day and how courageous you both are. I think that if most marriages were half as good as yours and Mike's this world would be a better place.

Love,

Jersey Girl

P.S. Brett's papcap is MAGIC. John is still snoring with his mouth closed, yes! But, it is now down to a decible level that I can live with and sleep with as long as he's turned away from me. So, we are back in the same bed again after what felt like a long time.

Jersey Girl, the following post might provide a reasonably priced alternative for you and your husband:

viewtopic/t50680/Home-Sleep-Studies-by- ... plier.html

You can get the prescription for the CPAP / APAP unit, then order it via something like CPAPauction.com. It's an idea that might help.

Hope it helps.
