pillows and puppies

Post by sleepyjan » Fri Mar 26, 2010 7:01 am

I FEEL GREAT! Woke up after 6 hrs of sleep feelin like a tiger, layed on bed last night watching TV while hubby had a meeting going on in the living room and did NOT fall asleep! (until real bedtime that is) WOW...On the nights this new breather works.life is GOOD! ( been on it for a month now!) so, here are the questions of the day .....darling dog became angry with Mommy's new "no more snore breathing thing" )I think she's jealous of losing her cuddle spot near my pillow) Anyhow, she chewed the hose in half!.........Besides buying new hoses when Orphan Annie gets chew happy, can I tape it, glue it or somehow fix it ? Second question of the day, what bed pillows do you all use and/or recommend? Iim a side sleeper and I think a different bed pillow would stop some of my leak issues? Whatcha think? Thanks ya'll.you're wonderful and are making my journey so much easier!

Jan...you might be able to use tape on your hose as a temporary fix. You're lucky...a new hose only costs about $10. My son's 6 month puppy(OMG...is SHE a chewer) destroyed my Oracle mask...I was LIVID. Thank God...I was able to order a new one and in meantime had several old ones that I "parted" together. I DO try to keep spare hoses; mask parts and even a backup machine...'cause you NEVER know.

I'm a side sleeper and pillow slasher.
I've tried every pillow out there.....
this is the best, IMNSHO.
Memory foam pillow purchased wherever you can find it on sale.

Innovative folks around here
More than likely if you dme is close by you could pick one up from them right away. Good luck with hose i have my aussie hose and regular hose on hand. I dont allow my cats in my room so no issues yet with hoses for me.

Harbor Freight harborfreight.com has some plastic packaging tape like seranwrap that stretches & sticks to its self. Should fix the hoses and spray on red pepper on a hose cover might slow down the chewer!

As for a Pillow:
Image Is the one I HIGHLY RECOMMEND http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/produ ... ategory=14
The pillow is easily adjusted to suit any sleeping position:

* Side sleepers usually prefer a more full pillow. The four inch vertical side panel easily fills the space between the neck and shoulder.
* Back sleepers typically remove about one third to one half of the hulls. In this configuration, the side panel can be used as a therapeutic cervical pillow: Simply create a nest for the back of the head and the hulls in the cervical area will stay in place even during active sleep.
* Stomach can easily create an ideal, low-profile, cuddly pillow to suit their personal preferences.

Hi Carbonman,
What kind of a cutting tool do you use to shape your memory foam pillow? The cuts look clean. I would like to trim my pillow but not sure what tool to use. I don't have a electric carving knife. Its seems like if you hold the pillow too firmly it would compress like a marshmallow. What's your technique? I bought a memory foam pillow at Target for $18. Thanks.

I use a filleting technique.
Just like filleting halibut.
Cut just as deep as the exposed blade,
gently pull the cut open,
make another cut as deep as the blade.
Don't compress the foam.....let it be.
I use my old sheetrock knife w/a new blade.

I use a pillow made by countour living, do a search on line to see what it looks like. It has cutouts allot like carbonmans and costs around 50.00 if your not into filleting your own. I believe you can also by them at Target.

Dear Sleepyjan,

You just might want to try the cpapauction for a new hose - they might be cheaper there. Also, I use a Regenesis Buckwheat Hull cpap pillow from http://www.pur-sleep.com. When I had a nasal mask, I wanted the memory foam with cutouts (I'm not as good at fileting like Carbonman) and purchased one at http://www.contourliving.com. Their cpap pillow has 2 generous cutouts on the bottom - each corner and comes with a specially made pillowcase.

I actually thought my dog my chew up or play with my hose/mask, but she just came over looked at it, looked at it on me, figured it was just an extension of me, and licked the outside of the mask once. It was a successful meeting.

Best regards,

Jersey Girl

I went to a discount store and bought a small throw pillow, about half the width of a bed pillow, and tucked it into a regular pillow case. They tend to compress after a few months and need to be replaced regularly, but the size keeps them out of the way of spouses and hoses and I can sleep comfortably on the edge of the pillow. Cheap too.

I think I"ll go to WallyWorld my next day off and find memory foam pillow and try my hand at carving.......Your instructions look handy enough....a new 6 ft hose was $25 at DME they're going to order a 10 ft because they didn't have any in stock.....next time I go see Dr. I'm gonna get a copy of my prescription so that I can have other resources....Unfortunately, I love my little town (we're so big we have a zip code AND a Walmart!) but sources for many things are limited........
