Can't use Swift FX and I love it

Post by newname » Wed Mar 24, 2010 7:52 pm

It's so comfortable but my nostrils burn too much with nasal pillows even at a pressure of 8. Sadly I'll have to keep using a nasal mask.
Anyone else have this problem?

I had to let my nares toughen with the pillows. I've been using LT for over a year and don't even feel it now.

Try dabbing your nares with Lanisoh Lanolin ointment. This may help to protect them. Also make sure your nares are well hydrated by turning the humidity up, if you can. You may want to try NeilMed gel during the day and before bedtime. This helps to keep them moistened as well. Also make sure you are using the right size pillows as the wrong size can irritate your nares. You may have to switch back and forth between pillow mask and nasal mask for a while, until your nares toughen up.

As hose head mentioned, it's almost like you nostrils need to become used to it. I used to get this a lot with the Swift II but a little with the Swift FX, but several weeks on (although I hadn't used the Swift FX solidly for two weeks, only about half that time) my nostrils seem to have got used to the pressure.

I've been using it for about a week and I have somewhat experienced the same thing. I will tell you that it's nowhere near as uncomfortable as the nasal mask I was using though. I use the lanisoh ointment and that seems to help with leaks as well as the soreness.
I love the fx though as i am a side sleeper and my leaks and wakeups have greatly dimished. Hang in there, it'll get better.

Jury still out for me but I completed my first full night with fx.

I started by using it 2-3 hours a night, usually when I get up around 4:30 to 5:30, took 4-5 nights before I dared doing an entire session last night. I have ayre nasal saline gel and lanisoh lanolin at home in case it's needed.

For me I definitely needed to condition my nostrils and toughen them up a little. I too sleep on the side; my leak line was ok but definitely needs to flatten out....

Lossen the upper strap and tighten the back strap. Also try a different size pillow.
