Side effects to medicine

Post by maggiedog » Fri Jan 14, 2005 12:49 pm

Hi, I am in the process of being scheduled for my sleep test for apnea, but my Dr gave me a prescription for Zyrtec and Nasonex to help clear my nose and allergies to see if this helps me at all.
I will say that I never had a bad reaction to medicine except Sulfa and I am a healthy 34 y/o woman. Well I took it for the 1st time last night before bed. ( I will admit that I had a 1/2 glass of wine earlier in the evening)
Well I dream vivid everynight, but last night I had nightmares! It seemed to be lasting hours long( I felt like I starred in a a very bad movie!!)
When I woke up, my neck was stiff and my chest hurt. ( Kind of felt like when you wake up after anestesia and it hurts to breath)
I woke up in sweat also. When I woke up to let the dogs out, I was very weak and my arms are very tired
This never happened to me from a medication let alone an allergy med?? I have taken stuff befor with out a problem.
Has this happened to anyone? My eyes were swollen and I am so tired today. Every time I breath in deep my lungs hurt.It felt like I didnt sleep at all. My husband said that I was breathing better in my sleep though. I am going to call the pharmacist, but has anyone experienced anything like this???
It was very scary

You mentionned in a previous post you were taking an anti depressant (an SSRI).

If you are still taking it, mixing it with alcohol is a big no no.
It's probably what caused such a bad reaction.

Another possibilty however is the fact that alcohol makes Sleep Apnea much worse as it is a respiratory system depressant.

Your husband may have noticed you were breathing better, but obviously only when he was awake. You could have been having trouble while he was asleep.

SSRI's taken with most antihistimines is also a no no which may have exacerbated your problems.
