Hope for those of you just starting

Post by cotech50 » Sun Mar 21, 2010 7:49 pm

It has been 4 mos now and I have now a 7 day avg AHI of 0.7 and feel better and have more energy than I have had in several years. OSA gradually over time robs you and compromises your health in many ways and you do not even realize what is happening. I have seen some remarkable changes in my health in just these 4 short months. For all of you just starting there are hurdles to overcome and a major change in your life to acclimate to and some will experience moments that cause them to become discouraged. Having a machine strapped to my face for the rest of my life is better than facing life again as it was b4 CPAP. I hope the change comes as easy for you and you can start having positive benefits as I have, when you start seeing the positive changes the mask and all its inconvenience will insignificant.

Thanks for the encouragment. I have been on CPAP a little over a week. I still can't sleep through the night. It might be a little better, not sure. I plan on giving this machine as long as it takes, and I am hopeful one day I will get a good night's sleep -- BUT WHEN???

It is not a foot race, it is a long journey. Most of the time it takes a long time before we realize that we are having a problem with SA and the effects of it are cumulative. There is no instant cure, although some people have felt great results the morning after their titration study. If you have built up a sleep deficit it has to be payed pack and that may take some time. But it is all worth it in the end. I know. My father had undiagnosed sleep apnea and I do not want to go through what he did.

In looking back I know my father had undiagnosed sleep apnea and he suffered greatly for it. I WILL NOT go through that. Using a cpap is easy compared to that.

I am new to this whole thing less than 3 weeks. I find these kinds of posts very encouraging. Thank you!

Congrats on your improved health and restful sleep.
