First night on S9 Autoset...
First night on S9 Autoset...
Just got my S9 AutoSet today (Wednesday) and set it up. My M-Series CPAP was at 8cm...I set the range from 8-20 cm for tonight to see what kind of pressures I have when I have events. I also got a new cushon for my Mirage Quattro Full Face and set it up to make sure the leakage is at a minimum.
I am all hooked up wiht the 3.10 software...all that is left is the doing. Any advise from the S9 crowd?
Also, why do they disable smartstart when I indicate a full-face mask? I had that feature on my M-series and liked it. Wodul it cause problems if I indicate a nasel pillow instead interms of how it operates? I'm leaving it on full face and dealign with turing it on and off, but I was curious.

Well, I'm not part of the S9 crowd, but I did want to wish you a successful first night! I cried my first night, but it's gotten steadily better since then and I'm actually approaching my one year anniversary in about a month.
Good luck!
Good luck!

I don't know why you can't use SmartStart with a full face mask, but that was the case with the S8 also. The mask settings are to pre-set the expected flow rate for that specific mask, so that the Leak shown on your lcd or software will be the actual leak liters/minute.
I hope you sleep well with your S9, let us know how it goes.

Re: First night on S9 Autoset...
I'd recommend using the warm-up feature for the humidifier... I find that my mask seals better if the humidifier is warmed up before putting it on for some reason--maybe the moisture through the system helps. Also, you'll be able to tell right away if the air temperature is set to your liking... I found the default of 80F too warm and lowered over the next few nights until I settled on 75F. To use warm-up, hold the dial button in for 3 seconds... and the screen will show that it is warming up.
I don't use smart start... tried it, but found it disconcerting. I suspect that they disable it for full face masks because of the higher flow rate--they may be unable to distinguish someone taking it off from a leak, and don't want to stop therapy due to leak.

I suspect it has something to do with the larger mask, more air coming into the mask and not being able to sense properly but I might be wrong.KatieW wrote:I don't know why you can't use SmartStart with a full face mask, but that was the case with the S8 also.
Re: First night on S9 Autoset...
The reason you can't use AutoStart with a full face mask is because of the risk of asyphixiation (or so they say)

Re: First night on S9 Autoset...
Hi all…the executive summary of my first night with the S9 is that it is really nice. I do not know how to get images on this forum otherwise I’d post my detailed data. It is definitely quieter than my M-series Pro and I like the data it captures for review with the ResScan 3.10 software. I also felt really well slept during the day too…but I’ll get to that in a moment.DreamDiver wrote:Prowest - So how did your first night go?
I set the range from 8-20 cm…my M-series Pro was set to 8 cm and my AHI was usually 1.0 or less. I only had two events and I am sure that the first was when I was going to sleep and was yawning since it I right at the start of the session and I am sure I was awake at the time. On the S9, I only slept 4.5 hours (I know…no need to tell me, but is has been one of those kind of work weeks!) but I felt great today. My AHI was 0.40. The pressure stayed in the 8-9 cm range for the most part but there was an excursion up to ~10 cm in the middle of the sleet and another excursion up to ~12 cm towards the need of the sleep session.
I just got the climate hose today…it was on backorder. So I’ll be hooking it up tonight and leaving it at 80F for this evening.
The key thing for me was the mask fit test. I set it up with my mask how I was wearing it and I failed miserably (with new cushions!). I had to tighten it up a bit to get a god seal. I am betting that the bad seal I had for some time was contributing to poor performance of my old CAPA and me not feeling as well.
So, it is only the first night and there are many more to come, but I am happy with the purchase and look forward to more nights with it. The next big test will be how it works after I have a couple drinks. That will be interesting…more to come!!!

"Resmed" say it in almost all the docs for the S8. I assume the reason is the same for the S9. (although they don't explain it in the S9 docs I have seen)jmelby wrote:Where do "they" say that?bigk wrote:The reason you can't use AutoStart with a full face mask is because of the risk of asyphixiation (or so they say)

I assume you are referring to the following in the documentation for the S8:bigk wrote:"Resmed" say it in almost all the docs for the S8. I assume the reason is the same for the S9. "SmartStart does not work with a full-face mask as the anti-asphyxia valve will not allow sufficiently high pressure on exhalation."
I really think it is important to get this sort of information right. It is not the "risk of asyphixiation", it is due to the anti-asphyxia valve. I'd hate for someone to read that and think that full face masks can cause asphyxiation.

Completely agree with you, this is a very important thing not to be misled by. It's just the valve and not "risk of asyphixiation".jmelby wrote:"SmartStart does not work with a full-face mask as the anti-asphyxia valve will not allow sufficiently high pressure on exhalation."
