Best Pulse Oximeter

I wanted to make a topic to keep tabs on the current community thoughts on what the best pulse oximeter is.

I currently have a CMS50E (http://www.facelake.com/cms50e.html) and it looks like many of you also have it. Is there anything better on the market?

Define "better".

There are lots of oximeters with more functions, greater accuracy, etc. They are "better". But you'll pay for that. There are also cheaper ones, but don't expect data storage. If this model does what you need at an affordable price, go for it. ($119 with free shipping is the best price I've seen for this unit, btw.)

If you want to spend more, then a write pulse oximeter is a choice I would have made. But I could not justify the added cost. So, I also chose the CMS 50E.

And, at only $4000 a pop (list), I can get one for home and another for travel!

(And I'll need a third one to see how low my wife's O2 level drops when I tell her how much I spent! )

I would like to add some criteria
Must be able to store a least 8 hours of data
Must have battery life longer then 8 hours
Must have software available to analysis the stored data


I have the CMS 50E. Lowest priced unit to meet all requirements. Wished it stayed reliable during movement. This would make it easier to monitor during workouts

I don't know about the BEST oximeter.....I don't think there probably is one best unit for everyone.

After much thought and research, I chose the very simple PC-based Spo2 monitor (Model CMS-P) made by CONTEC. It cost $80 including shipping. It consists of a finger probe attached to a long USB cable. The cable just plugs into my laptop which I keep on the table next to my bed. Included was all the software for sleep studies and reporting.

I didn't want to be bothered with battery issues, constant recharging, and having to download the data every morning. I just wake up, run the software and look at my reports. Takes me about a minute.

I wanted to add that I did not look at alarms at all in my decision process. I strictly wanted the spo2 device to record my patterns while I slept and then to graph and chart the results the next morning.

Any of the Contour models that include the software is good, just depends how much you want to spend and what bells/whistles you want to get.
