Actually rather less than 30 per year. Most stress I'm able to deal with in other ways, but every now and then I can feel my mind get obsessively stuck on a stressful situation in a sort of flight-or-fight conflict. When that happens I can know I'm "looping" on the issue, ratcheting my anxiety with every iteration (sorry if I make it sound like I'm running some broken software, but that's what it feels like to me).

Only in those cases do I need some chemical help to break the cycle, and even the slightest amount is enough to bring me back down.

For that, I'm very grateful!

Hi all,

I disappeared for a while but am okay. I had what I thought were slightly unusual cold symptoms, now think may've been CPAP related. Then 10/12 I couldn't get a good deep breath for some hours. I didn't do CPAP 10/12-14, then used it maybe 4 hours the 15th and last night slept 6 consecutive hrs with it on. I feel crumby, but less crumby than I did, and my CPAP adjustment is maybe going downright well. This is just a note to thank you all again and assure you I didn't just die or get bored. I even feel guilty now because last night I slept better than you, Sleepless, just about ever do, and I've been the one complaining. Not super guilty, though, and don't worry, I can deal with it. I've fallen behind in everything while sick, so don't know if or when I'll be back. I probably will, very possible in full whine-mode. Thnx again.

What do you mean, Coach, you don't feel guilty that you're the one complaining but you're sleeping better than me? Feel guilty, for God's sake, man! Don't you have a conscience???

You know I couldn't be happier to hear you say that Image. And may I share some good news, too, that last night, I only woke up one time, no Lunesta, and slept like a log? Don't know what happened, but I did. I have switched back temporarily to my Swift from my Aura and it's doing very nicely by me. Maybe that is the reason. I don't know. But I've learned not to look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth. But I did sleep rather well for me last night (knocking wood-yes, superstitious).

So you think you may be getting used to this after all? I would say six hours would back that up. Now just keep it up, please. I had a pretty nasty what I thought was a cold, but now I'm not sure if it was allergies or not. It went away after a week and then one day last week, woke up and it was back. Called the doctor since my BP is tempermental and asked what I could take for allergies that wouldn't affect the BP and she said Claritin, not Claritin D, but just the plain one. Best stuff I ever took. Took away any symptom I had in under two hours and lasted. I don't seem to need it anymore, but that helped me out the one day. Maybe it's not cold symptoms you have either but allergies. Bad time of year here on LI for that.

Well, keep us informed, please, as to how you're doing. I almost let out a loud "COUCH!!!" on the message boards, wondering how you were. Glad I didn't have to raise my voice.

Well, I don't want to get too kinky, but I guess all three of us kind of slept together last night.

Sleepless,

I was awake enough for both of us and Flowers and Neversleeps too last night, feel quite satisfactorily bad today though of course you may feel worse. I hope not. I'm actually beginning to like CPAP; it gives me something new upon which to blame everything from breathing worse to hurting more. Without it, I'd like as not be hurting anyway and blaming it on the gray rainy here-comes-winter weather, which would be too too boring. Worse yet, I might feel good; and might never even have known anything remarkable happened Sunday night.

Coach,

All I can say is, we have good days and bad days..or should I say nights, but at least Sunday night showed you that good ones can really happen. Don't lose faith. I know it's easier to say sometimes than actually do, but it seems you're just having a bit of a hard time right now. It all goes back to the fact that you felt great before you started this and now you're being forced to deal with something that is only making you feel worse. It's hard to realize that it will save your health in the long run when all it seems to do is give you grief and make you feel worse than how you did before you started. I really am sorry you're going through this garbage. I wish I could say a magic spell and make it better for you. I've been told I'm a witch before, but for some weird reason, my spells don't work. Sorry.

Sleepless,

Witching's a proud tradition, and should be, and your work with me is honest witch's work. Recuperating from an illness tends to be two steps forward, one back, and the one back can be discouraging; CPAP adjustment is similar, and I'll slog on with it. The intermittent good nights at least minimize the harm that a long series of bad ones could do. Last night was fine, by which I mean okay (and better than a lot or even most of yours). I came to this board with questions and they've been answered. I may keep on dropping by but at some point my visits will no doubt become rare. If I do disappear and you ever want to hear how I'm doing (you lose enough sleep without losing sleep over me, not that I think you really might) you can find me over at http://www.spinalinjury.freeuk.com/homepage.htm

In the meantime, post on, and may your zzzzzzzs refresh you.

Coach,

Is this YOUR site? I just went to the site to look. Are you Andy? If so, WOW! I'm impressed.

So you feel our work here is all done, eh? You don't want to chat with us anymore? My feelings are hurt. Just when we were getting to know each other, you're leaving for another web site. Men!

You are very right about what you said about two steps forward, one step back. At least you are finally having some decent nights to help you mind-wise in sticking with it. You really do have to just keep realizing how in time this would have permanently made you feel like you feel on your bad nights. You hadn't reached that stage yet, lucky for you. But hang on and you will get used to this. Nobody wants to be on it, I'm sure. But when you think about what can and probably would happen if you don't, then it makes you forge ahead.

Let me know if that's your site. If it is, I will definitely be checking up on you there if you don't visit here anymore. I'll miss you. Now you're making me sad...Image
