Call For Feedback: Equipment Display In Msg Footers
Re: Call For Feedback: Equipment Display In Msg Footers
Text, much faster, we will still have the problem of the users not knowing the equiptment they reall have, but that's a problem only they can fix. Jim

Ditto on the FITB option.Kiralynx wrote:... is it possible to have a "fill in the blank" ,,,
To clarify what I was saying earlier - I like not putting my stuff at the bottom if it's not going to help the topic of the thread. I'd like to include it when it is important to the thread. What about making it like the signature, so we can decide on a case-by-case basis when it appears in a particular post?

gee thanks Johnny!johnnygoodman wrote:Howdy All,
Its been a while! I was going to make this a poll, but I've got two streams of decisions.
1. What if instead of setting which way you wanted YOUR equipment profile to show, you set which way you wanted to view all equipment profiles? Your options would be text links or images. The mouse over would be thrown in if you decided to view images.
2. If that isn't agreeable, and its better to set what all view for your post than to set how you view all posts, then I have to poll people to ask if they'd rather the options for display are image, text or to retain the "both" feature.
Another thing I'm asked regularly is "why doesn't my equipment show up on the list". The answer is that we generate the list from CPAP.com to ensure its standardized. This isn't perfect, but its fast and easy. One day, I will have it changed but its a low priority.
I'll read individual comments on this and then launch a poll based people favoring a "style 1" or "style 2" approach above. After that poll concludes, we'll set it as the majority decides.
Good feedback!
Johnny
PS. Here's the original suggestion thread: viewtopic/t50056/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50056&p=459677. A tip of my cap to snnnark for the great suggestion.
Option 1 works for me too.

Thanks Johnny... I appreciate the chance to give input for changes...
Text definitely... As most people have stated here... it is faster and 99.9% accurate. I believe it would be a better experience if the decision was uniform for the viewer as you suggest in Your Choice #1
Personally if I see pix instead of text then I hit the User Name with left click and get the profile info with equipment... I really don't like mouse-overs to each piece cause I lose control of the screen until it gives it back...
For Newbies: Near as I can tell the equipment info is valuable for different reasons:
1. Newbies want to know what people are using so that they can make better choices...
2. Posters want accurate help with problems and responders want to understand the situation better so that the advice will be more accurate
3. Everyone who is scanning posts are considering new equipment choices and we can see others who have tried it
And perhaps less important:
4. Newbies make their initial choice to Profile and simply make an easy and perhaps lightly considered choice (between pix or text)
5. Vanity - some people are visually oriented and will always make that choice for pix
A link to CPAP.com, or perhaps multiple links to areas of CPAP.com, at the top or bottom of the thread for most (especially Newbies) to do look-ups of equipment would work great for everyone...
I like to keep multiple pages open including CPAP.com when I'm doing equipment research.
My $0.02 or perhaps .03 with inflation and bloated comments by myself...

I agree with PST + I don't care much for mouse-overs.PST wrote:It's hard to see how you could go wrong letting the viewer choose. He or she has a bigger stake in the choice than the person profiled. I'll bet, though, that the overwhelming majority choose text. If you could only have one, it would be text. In theory a glance at a picture is quick, but lots of families of CPAP machines look the same, and masks are hard to make out, so in practice images require a click and waiting time.johnnygoodman wrote:1. I agree... Last time we had 'em over they snuck into our pantry and ate our food.DreamStalker wrote:I don't care much for mouse-overs.

That is just one more reason why the pantry should not be used for storing food. Food needs to be stored in the frig in order to stay fresh and mouse-free. If the food you buy is non-perishable, then the mice should be allowed to feast on it all they want.-SWS wrote:I agree... That's far better reasoning than our idea to experiment by having a gerbil-over---- hoping they turn out to be better-behaved guests.DreamStalker wrote:That is just one more reason why the pantry should not be used for storing food. Well if you intend to take the advice of an international think tank, I understand that the Mongolian gerbils are much more friendly guests than the Indian or African varieties. The key is to not invite the eagles over at the same time as they can and often do initiate more conflict than thinking amongst the gerbils.-SWS wrote:That's far better reasoning than our idea to experiment by having a gerbil-over---- hoping they turn out to be better-behaved guests.DreamStalker wrote:That is just one more reason why the pantry should not be used for storing food. I don't really care.....
however you want to do it is fine w/me.
....BUT, what I want to know is when is it PC
to not list any equipment?
Is it the length of time you have been a member?
Is it the number of posts you have made?
Is it a code to the Inner Circle?
If equipment is not listed, is it assumed that:
you don't want to share....
you have it all figured out....
you don't need any help.....
or you are beyond help?
