Best of luck SleepyMary21.
I had a septoplasty too. You can do it. It helps if you have a significant other/family member to act as a patient advocate. Get some rest. They've got this kind of surgery down pat.

I had this surgery 2 days ago, I am doing well, no real pain just a uncomfortable feeling and stuffy head which I was told will soon pass, I am looking forward to being able to breathe well through my nose .plus I am enjoying my family spoiling me, I might drag this out a bit.

Had my septoplasty a few years ago. Prior to the septoplasty, I would not be able to tolerate CPAP when I had even a mild cold. After full recovery from the operation (took about a month), I was amazed at how much better I could breathe. And now I tolerate CPAP well even when I have a cold!
Take care!

Mary - I had septoplasty and several other things done about 18 months ago. It was a piece of cake! only took two pain pills - one right after getting home and one the following morning prior to having the packing removed. I could tell a difference in how well I could breathe through my nose immediately. Had not problems at all during recovery.

ENT did the surgery prior to my titration and I firmly believe that my pressure is lower because of it.

Hope you have the same type experience I did.

Mary: I had septoplasty and turbonate reduction surgery done a few years ago and like you I was a bit concerned. I was almost totally blocked and could not receive adequate treatment until I had this done.

So here is the good part #1, they put me to sleep, let me tell you that was the best sleep i had had in a long time! I would do it again in a heart beat just for the rest. #2, The meds they gave me after the operation where more than adequate to cover any pain or discomfort that I had afterwards. I was able to fool everyone around the house and enjoyed allot of special attention from my Wife and Kids (dose this make me a bad person?) Here is the big ONE #3, I probably had the deviated septum most of my life, the operation was done in the summer, when I left the doctors office from having the splint or whatever it was in my nose post operation, I sat in the Car and I am here to tell you it was almost spiritual, the air conditioner was on full blast and for the first time in my life I had mass volumes of air flowing through my nose, It felt like those car commercials look with the wind tunnel and smoke swirling over the car and in my case right into my nose into my lungs... it felt sooooo good and well worth any discomfort. . This for me was a new hope that my cpap therapy that had failed miserably would become effective.

So my final words would be don't be worried or afraid get ready to celebrate even if your results are not near mine they will most certainly be an incremental improvement to your overall well being, health and Longevity. Our prayers are with you!

And May your years on the Hose be blessed and plentiful LOL!

Well I am home and the discomfort is not too bad. I am having trouble with some nauseum. And I think I am having some excess drainage. I the the nauseum is from the drainage going to my stomach. Any ideas for that I would appreciate.

Over all I don't feel too bad.

I had trouble with nausea too, i was given two doeses of anti nausea meds in the recovery room and then sedated until i felt well enough to leave, 4 hours after surgery !

Everyones reactions to what the anesthesiologist gives you is different. Also the Rx pain killers they give you can cause nausea, try to get on regular Tylenol as soon as you can.

I agree with Uncle_Bob. Codeine and some of its derivatives can even cause bad enough nausea to produce uncontrollable projectile vomiting in some people. If you're taking anything related to codeine, say hydrocodone, you probably want to be off that as soon as possible. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) really is enough.
