ResMed Internet Pricing
ResMed Internet Pricing
Got the ResMed Internet pricing change email this morning from cpap-supply.com....
"We want to let you know that between now and March 15, you'll be seeing some changes with ResMed prices posted on our website, due to new policies imposed by ResMed. Not only will posted prices for ResMed products change, but we won't be able to advertise or offer our actual retail prices for ResMed products if they're lower than the MIRP prices. That means you'll have to call or email to make sure you're getting the best price possible on equipment manufactured by ResMed.
This only applies to CPAP equipment manufactured by ResMed, like the Mirage masks and the S8 machines.
We'll continue to try to make it as convenient as possible for you to order everything we sell at competitive prices."
Hasn't this happened before?

They despise the Internet sellers. They refuse to address the problems with the brick & mortar DMEs' failures at having an acceptable level of compliance with this therapy.......but somehow, they try to blame it on the Internet sellers. A couple of years ago, the "Big 3" (ResMed, Respironics and Fisher & Paykel) appeared to conspire as they came out with the same Internet sales policies at about the same time.
As long as they all consider the DMEs (and not the end user) as their "customers" , nothing is going to change. We're just a "drop in the bucket" when it comes to being able to influence their decisions......even though they monitor this forum on a regular basis. So, many of the things that are written here are also intended for their "benefit", too.

What's the old definition of insanity? Ah, yes! I remember:

Appears that ResMed is trying once again ... Gee! I wonder if the results will change!! ?? !!

And yet another blazing example of ResMed's disregard of their admitted decreased product quality, and their disregard of consumer needs in the apparent interest of financial gain for ResMed and for the DME's:

My wishful belief is that as rapidly as internet savvy is progressing among the world's population, ResMed and other CPAP companies will be quickly forced to realize who their consumers actually are. And that the fraudulent, uneducated, uncaring, and completely financially motivated DME's will disappear into the woodwork as we empowered individuals demand and command what we need by refusing to buy into junk. An educated public rules the market by refusing to play into the sham.

The frequent polarisation around all bricks and mortar supply channels being BAD and all internet supply channels being GOOD is also quite amusing!dsm wrote:(scuse my amusement - tis now my 5th year here of watching ineffective 'railing' against Resmed policies )

Re: ResMed Internet Pricing
Keep in mind that ResMed is just matching the same policy that Respironics has with their PR1 system. If the S9 is priced in the US at $1800 with an advertised price of $2200, good luck to ResMed selling these outside of the DME/Insurance/Medicare evil ring of conspiracy. I think most educated XPAPers will realize that an S8 with an Aussie hose will do everything this S9 system will do with a slightly larger package and less than half the price.
Re: ResMed Internet Pricing
If I was competing against ResMed, I would take this opportunity to drop my Internet prices and let them be advertised prominently on the Internet sites. Let the big boys have the B&M market. Jump on the expanding Internet market instead.
Problem is, I think, that the smaller companies may be scared that the rest of the industry might counter that move by aligning against them and shutting them out of the B&M DME market completely. However, I still think that small companies that can't compete head-to-head with the market dominators in the B&M market should carve out a spot on the Internet by partnering with the Internet sellers on lowering ADVERTISED prices in that market. If the big boys react by attempting to shut them out of the B&M market, THEN would be the time to deal with market-control questions in the proper legal arena.
It is time.

These machines need to be available in pharmacies just like...
-glucose meters
-blood pressure monitors
-medication
-...and a few other devices
Squeeze out the DME's who are really not needed.

AND, there is NO WAY that anyone can truthfully and accurately say that the Resmed xPAPs are poorly made or poor quality devices. Their xPAPs are of excellent quality, sturdy and durable.

There are enough statements and innuendos in the link (and sub-headings) to their "US Internet Selling Policies" that imply that "Internet sellers" aren't to be trusted.
http://www.resmed.com/us/dealers/intern ... nc=dealers
And, yet, overall, the compliance for this therapy is reported to be around 50%. When we know that the brick & mortar channels have the vast majority of that business, and from the evidence we've seen here on a daily basis......for years, it isn't hard to figure out which group hasn't been doing their job or had the best interests of the patients at heart.
I've never put either one in an "ALL" category.
And, I've watched these price-fixing tactics going on for FIVE years, too. It's been apparent to me that the Internet sellers are making the b&m shops look bad. There must be some politicians and "bean counters" who are wondering how much money could be saved in the healthcare industry by using a different model than the one they have been using.

I like talking root causes and Bill is absolutely right. Suppliers don't get away with actions like this unless there is a pernicious web of Federal and State laws to protect them.billbolton wrote:

One fundamental rule of capitalism says the supplier will respond to the one he believes to be the customer. A second rule says that suppliers will perceive the payer as the customer. So in effect, the supplier responds to the payer and not to us who consider ourselves customers.Wulfman wrote:

Who is the payer in the U.S.? Well the Federal government is the payer of about 50% of all medical costs via Medicare, Medicaid and some smaller programs. The state-protected insurance companies are the second major payers. Last and least are us consumers.
So health care and equipment providers respond to our governments and our insurance companies. So we consumers have the least amount of say in our health care.
Wait until we have a national health care system and you will have zero say in your treatment.
