ResMed S8 cardreader shortage

Post by akeegan » Thu Feb 25, 2010 7:34 pm

I'm reading there is a shortage on cpap.com for ResMed S8 USB card readers. I talked to cpap.com and they said they "should" get some in on March 5. In the mean time, I just order one from the following site:

http://www.medicaldepartmentstore.com/P ... Code=22207

Seems very professional. Immediate e-mail confirmation after my order. BBB, UPS shipping, etc.

Regards,
Al

Hey Al!

You must have been reading my mind. If I get this smart card reader, do I also need to buy their software to make it work? If so, where do I purchase that and do you know if it is very expensive? (I'd love to have more information, if possible.)

Thanks,

Deb.

I suspect by now that you've recieved information on the ResScan software that IS needed to download your data from the machine. But take note that you don't have to pay the $69 - $99 for the card reader or the ResMed branded cable. All you need is a null modem cable for the connection to download to your particular computer from your machine. These cables (depending on your computer) only cost between $8.00 and $20.00 to purchase. Much cheaper than the card reader.

Humidifier: ResMed H5i
Software: ResScan 3.10 w/ cable

Resmed S8 family machines don't have serial ports, so that wont work.

Cheers.

You can buy (I don't know about availability or price) A usb serial adapter that will let you connect your ResMed S8 to a computer via serial cable.

Replacement parts:

22201 ResScan Serial Adapter
17952 Serial Cable

I have one
I use it.
It works.

It costs about the same as the S8 USB cable.....

Cheers,

Sorry all,
After a bit of homework on the S8 I fear I may have spoken out of turn. Seems that the card reader has to be used to get the information at any point. The cable for these has an adaptor that uses the cardslot to interface with the cable and computer. It looks to be a dead end without that adaptor. I'm just trying to help figure out a more fiscally responsible way to help get the data I feel you are entitled to.

I use the VPAP Auto ST and assumed (incorrectly) that it had the same ports available.

Here's an update on data self-management difficulties:

The ResScan 3.7 software is no longer available on cpap.com. I think ResMed is trying to prevent the sale of its clinician's tools, including the hardware and the software. The software is required for the card reader to work.

I did find the software at this site:

http://www.cpap-supply.com/ResScan-3-7-p/31305.htm

There is an operating system caveat from this site, though;

Note: ResScan 3.7 is compatible only with 32-bit operating systems. It is not compatible with Windows Vista 64-bit operating system.

If you're going to get the software this is probably a good time, before it disappears.

Well, ver 3.7 works just fine in Windows 7 64 bit.
It installs as a 32 bit program but there is no problem.
I would think it < should > work in Vista also.

My back-ordered (from late Jan) card reader is now on it's way from cpap.com; just got email advice earlier today.
