Mixing masks and machines
Mixing masks and machines
Hi-
I have a Respironics Remstar Auto Cflex machine w/ humidifier. The machine is set a variable pressure- something like 6 to 18... I use a Resmed Ultra Mirage II Mask. I have been using the mask for about a year, I like it much better than my original Respironics Comfort gel mask which I used for about 2 1/2 years. The only complaint is the Ultra Mirage is a bit noisier. I am considering trying the Resmed Softgel mask- I think it will seal a little better and be just a bit more comfy than the Ultra Mirage.
Question- is it OK to mix masks from one manufacturer with machines from another? It seems I sleep better with the Resmed mask-but maybe that is a comfort thing. Is there loss of pressure or ??
Sorry if this is repeat question, I did a search, but could not find the answer.
Thanks, Matt

Yes, that's OK to use different manufacturers' masks with your machine.sixtygp wrote:Question- is it OK to mix masks from one manufacturer with machines from another?

Re: Mixing masks and machines
Yep- we use both Resmed and Resperonics masks with our Resperonics CPAP.
Re: Mixing masks and machines
I have ResMed machine and use Respironics nasal mask - working ok.
Btw you might want to look at the Respironics EasyLife - I started on ComfortGel and then changed to EasyLife.....less moving parts, much lighter - only downside for me is exhalation vent going upwards toward my forehead and eyes.

Many here used mixed equipment brands...I am using a ResMed machine and a F&P Forma mask.

I have a Respironics machine and all three of my masks are Resmeds. All seems to work well. The key is having a mask that works for you.

If you are using the PR System One device, there may be some advantage in using the system one labeled masks from PR as matching the mask to the System one setting will allow the device to better match/deliver the desired pressure settings. With other masks, the leak rates and pressure drop may vary (especially with the pillows masks), so the CPAP may deliver too much or too little pressure.
I do second the majority opinion though, that it is most important to find the right style mask for your sleep pattern, and make sure it works for you a majority of the night, every night. Matching machine and mask manufacture is a secondary or tertiary concern.

Yes, I find the Ultra Mirage II to be noisy....but I use a Shallow Wide, and there's no equivalent size in any of the other Resmed nasal masks. I had gotten the LargeWide in the ActivaLT, because ResMed had said that's the same thing (its not)....and that the SoftGel in that size was coming soon.sixtygp wrote:The only complaint is the Ultra Mirage is a bit noisier. But, I did notice that the ActivaLT was quieter...so I looking at the elbows one day, I decided to try swapping them. Now, my UltraMirageII is quiet....
The Dreamer.
I later picked up a MirageMicro, in ExtraLarge...because an online site had said that's the same as the ShallowWide....it also is not. but, its another elbow I can swipe for the future....
