swollen throat/tongue or sore throat?

I've had my first CPAP for almost 4 weeks. I began when I was experiencing allergy/cold problems. I'm finally over those problems, by my throat continues to feel "sore." The feeling, however, is more like the back of my tongue feels sore or swollen. It hurts somewhat when I swallow or when I roll or flatten my tongue in my closed mouth. It seems worse in the morning or right before I go to bed. Anybody experience something like this? Solutions?

I had that before I got my cpap. Cpap cured it for me.

Do you use humidity?
Do you have a full face mask?
Are you leaking from the mouth?

Your mouth and nose tissues are not used to the extra air pressure yet. Certainly get a humidifier if you don't have one. However, even with a humidifier, the dry and sore nose, throat and tongue is a common side effect of xPAP therapy. The good news is that in many cases the problrem tends to resolve itself within a few weeks. Also you can help things along by switching away from mouthwashes that contain alcohol in favor of those formulated for dry mouth. I switched to Biotene mouthwash. I garggle just before going to sleep at night and in the morning when I arise. Oasis makes a similar product that I have not tried.

Additional issues (mouth breathing and mask leaks ) have been noted in previous posts by others.

Thanks for the insights. I'm hoping that after a few weeks it will go away.

I have a CPAP with humidifier, set at the mid-range. If I add humidity, it'll produce water in the hose. I have a nose pillow (Swift?) and I wear a chin strap. I have noticed several times as I'm dosing off that my mouth will open. I've got the chin strap as tight as I can without it giving me a headache or feeling absolutely uncomfortable. I'm also using the ramp feature.

Chin straps don't help if your lips don't stay closed. And no chin strap will do that.
I use a Hybrid mask that has nasal pillowes and a flap over the mouth.

Your throat and tongue will definitely get sore and swollen if you are leaking.
