SPO-7500 Oximeter or CMS Model 50-E Pulse Oximeter
SPO-7500 Oximeter or CMS Model 50-E Pulse Oximeter
Someone (from this board, thank you!) recently recommended an SPO-7500 Oximeter with software, costing around $400 total,http://www.turnermedical.com/SPO_PulseO ... imeter.htm.
How does it compare with the CMS50E, which is considerable less at $150, http://www.semedicalsupply.com/cms-50e.htm?
The only major difference that I can see is the CMS50E Pulse Oximeter only records 24 hours of data? It appears both can be worn overnight although the SPO looks easier to keep on when sleeping....another site said the cheaper model is about 2 yrs old, made in China but FDA approved.

Re: SPO-7500 Oximeter or CMS Model 50-E Pulse Oximeter
Since my original post and some careful searching (unfortunately too many threads to read), I've found there are several good Contec models with different price points, from $120-199 range:
CMS 50-E Fingertip and others: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46683&p=419514&hili ... ip#p419514
CMS 50-D Plus - newer model? viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47974&st=0&sk=t&sd= ... r&start=15
Contec CMS-60D - 2008 model? http://www.semedicalsupply.com/cms-60d.htm
According to senior resident expert Bill B, they all work in some form or fashion.
I've emailed one of the suppliers as mfger is from China and will see what they say. It seems the SPO is the Mercedes whereas the Contec's are the Volkswagons....they all get you there though. This post is really a bookmark for me

Re: SPO-7500 Oximeter or CMS Model 50-E Pulse Oximeter
Since I continue to awaken at night, and periodically continue to awaken with horrible headaches, I wanted to be certain I was not having too many problems with an O2 level going too low. Though I also liked the wrist version, I decided on the CMS 50-E. The advantage it has over the CMS 50-D Plus is that it is lighter. (The 50-D Plus uses 2 AAA batteries). The downside is that the lithium battery in it will eventually die, whereas the 2 AAA batteries can be replaced. Since I wanted it to "spot check" my O2 values, I decided on the lighter version. I figured there was no point in getting a pulse oximeter that would awaken me!dtsm wrote:... CMS 50-E Fingertip and others: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46683&p=419514&hili ... ip#p419514 ...
If I had the funds, I would have preferred the wrist model.

Re: SPO-7500 Oximeter or CMS Model 50-E Pulse Oximeter
I have no comparison since i have only owned the spo-7500 but i do like it alot. the reports are awesome and it seems accurate and consistent. John has a great point about batteries which is my only complaint about the spo7500. it uses a 1/2AA battery which can be bought at radio shack for over 20 bucks! OR you can get them online for about 7 bucks each. so battery costs are high initially on the 7500 when using it nightly. i have been using mine nightly for 2 months since starting on cpap and i think after all things are dialed in and i'm comfortable knowing everything is cool, i won't be using is much anymore except for here and there to make sure all is cool. so keep that in mind. i THINK others use it in the same fashion. once dialed in, you probably don't need it, or certainly not nightly anyway, unless something changes and you start suspecting issues, like john said, with headaches or whatever. Then... sure is nice to have one to KNOW your therapy is working oxygen sat wise... on top of your AI and AHI and such.
best of luck

What? That's "KickTheFog" you say? !!
Hmmm... Would you mind helping me kick some of this fog hanging over me today? So, I guess that is a moniker to which I can relate!!

I have the 50 E and paid $130 or close to that--first night i taped it to finger--now it stays on ok--but still annoying--i like the software and price--I recharge it by leaving it plugged to puter for a hour--have not had to replace rechargeable batteries --it didnt come with manual and you need to down load it--but it do like it--
Contec CMS-60D
Just placed order for the wrist model, AA batteries. Now if my card reader, on back order would ship! Thanks for everyone's help with this.JohnBFisher wrote: If I had the funds, I would have preferred the wrist model.

Online source for SPO 7500 batteries (ER14250) @ $1.89 each: http://www.batteryspace.com.
I've been using this battery from them for some years now. It lasts about 8 uses (2 second interval recording x 8hrs).
- 64 hrs total. SPO claims 300 hrs, but that's "corporatespeak" for their 10 second interval mode.

CMS Model 60-D Pulse Oximeter
I ultimately bought a different model, the 60-D and very happy with it. From reading other threads, all the CMS models that are data capable work just fine.
Re: SPO-7500 Oximeter or CMS Model 50-E Pulse Oximeter
I have one of the earliest SP0 7500 wrist recording oximeters. There was a problem w/the On/Off button being very difficult to use. They solved some of that problem w/the new finger cup sensor. But I find the finger cup sensor somewhat uncomfortable. I much prefer the sensor that you have to tape on as the most comfortable. I haven't tried any of the newer SPO 7500 wrist recording oximeters. The software was easy to install and use and very informative.
I'm currently using a Contec CMS-50D+ borrowed from a friend because my SP0 7500 is out on loan to another friend. The manual is a nightmare! Contec needs a few native English translators to translate thier translated manuals!!! But then I'm not a techie and I'm not on the friendliest of terms w/cell phones, etc. either. However, once you master how to record and download from the 50D+ the reports are good and it does the job.
