Going on my first trip with Cpap

Okay, a couple of trips.

Driving down to Florida over the March break to visit my parents. Up side...I'm about to pen a deal on a new Ford Flex so I'll have an actual plug outlet in the car so I can plug in while I'm in sleep non driving mode.

I'm going to Dubai in May. Any suggestions re flight? I haven't looked into their electrical yet but I figure I'll probably have to buy a converter of some sort.

Also going somewhere in Southeast Asia late summer. Not entirely sure where yet. The leading bet on location so far is Singapore, Thailand, or possibly New Zealand.

Same questions as Dubai really. Very long flights. I haven't booked the flights yet as we are trying to wiggle some upgrade coupons so I can fly in first class. (hubby's company is paying for him to go 1st class, and I won't travel coach if he's up there.

I just got back from a China and was on a 15 hour flight. Unless you have business class you aren't likely to have an outlet. If you have business class, you can call the airline and ask them about CPAP. I cannot sleep well on planes, so I didn't consider using CPAP on the plane.

Other than that, just forget to bring an extension cord because sometimes the outlet isnt where you need it in your hotel room. In Dubai you should be able to buy distilled water in the store there, same thing with Singapore. otherwise use bottled water while you are travelling. If you have a universal adaptor, you just plug the extension cord into the adaptor and you are all set. I recommend APAP for travel since I found my pressure varied more with altitude, travel fatigue and humidity.

I also brought some citrus CPAP wipes (you can get them on cpapauction.com) and used these for daily mask cleaning. Its really not that big of a deal to travel with the CPAP and it helps you recover from the rigors of the road. I am amazed when I returned how much faster I recovered from my jetlag with better breathing.

I'm hoping to upgrade to first class. Going to see if anyone has some upgrade certificates kicking around. My husband used to get them all the time but only started travelling alot again in the last few months so he hasn't yet reached the "elite" status if we go Air Canada or star alliance network.
