well, i think i figured it out. i guess you have to be on-line for the soft ware to work. it accesses a data base every few days maybe? i don't know for sure, but when i went back on-line, it worked again. and my internet security said that the repironics program was attempting to access the internet.

As a potential encore2 user, I feel uncomfortable. This means each time you are running this software, you are being montored by Respironics through your internet connection. Big brother is watching you. Just realize that you are using a product that you are not supposed to use

Well darn, that sucks!!! I was going to try it on an old computer that does not have internet capabilities. I guess I will stay with 1.8 and see if they ever get a program that is for users. PR System One still does not exist!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this problem as well and fixed it easily. You need to go to control panel and open Administrative Tools, and then open Services. And then scroll down the list of services until you find the SQL services. Any of the ones that have (ENCORXXXX) in the name should be set to "Automatic" and if you find any that are on "Automatic" but not started, go ahead and click "Start" to get the service working. This should do the trick!

I also encountered a time when my smart card reader had stopped working. Well, I did the same thing with the Smart Card Service in this same list and never had a problem again.

These have just been my experiences and I hope the same techniques work for you.

Best of luck to you.

To clarify, I use a modified Infinity 481 nasal prong mask and love it; and I use Encore Pro 2.2 to analyze my sleep statistics.

I think ecocyber nailed it. Encore Pro needs the SQL program (comes in Windows) to be running before it can access the database in your Encore Pro program, no matter what version of Encore Pro you're using... 2.2 or 1.anything. Encore Viewer doesn't need SQL, but Encore Pro does.

Back when I had dial-up, I'd get the same kind of error message "can't find database" or "can't connect to database" (don't recall the exact wording) if I tried to download my Smart Card with any version of Encore Pro up through 1.8.49. There was no Big Brother thing in those versions of Encore Pro. The error appeared any time I'd forgotten to "start" SQL before I started Encore Pro. I always kept SQL off except when I wanted to do a Smart Card download. I turned SQL off when I was finished. I was on dial up for many years, and the error happened whether I was connected to the internet or not...it happened only when I forgot to start SQL first.

I'm not computer savvy enough to know this for sure, but I really don't think it's a "Big Brother" feature in 2.2. I think it's just that SQL wasn't running already in your computer in that instance, sleepsurfer. What ecocyber suggested to do should get you going again. Others used to report that happening to them sometimes with the older versions of Encore Pro, too.
