My father has been using the ResMed Activa Nasal mask for 8 years. He is 88 years old and has recently develop a bad case of mouth breathing. He says he cannot take waking ever morning with a sore throat and dry month. My mother does hear him snore during the night with the nasal mask. Tonight ( my suggestion) he is going to try to tape is month shut, if I know my father this is not going to work out.
He did ask about a full face mask, and I did remind him in the past he had tried (6 or 7 times) the Ultra Mirage full face mask and he could only wear it for a few minutes. My question is: Is there a newer full face mask or a mask that might work for him with his mouth breathing? I did look at the Mirage Quattro full face mask . Is there a big difference from the Ultra Mirage full face mask? If the Ultra did not work out for him, am I throwing my money away with the Quattro?

I've had the same Quattro for 1.5 years and find the Quattro to better than the Ultra as far as fit and comfort go. The FullLife headgear may be too cumbersome for him to use that mask

Re: Need a full face mask for my father
I remember from the past what you had said about your father's problems with FF masks. So, yes, it probably would be money down the drain for him to try a Quattro. Not because of the Quattro itself, but just because of your father's difficulty in general with Full Face masks. That said, it never hurts to try... maybe, maybe, maybe, this time...th wrote:If the Ultra did not work out for him, am I throwing my money away with the Quattro?
If it doesn't work for him, you could always try to sell it (with a post on this board, or via cpapauction.com) to get some of your money back. Now that I think about that, you might want to check out cpapauction to see if any Quattros are up for auction. Perhaps get one cheaper for him to try than buying brandnew. The Rx you have on file with cpaptalk lets you buy/sell on their auction site... cpapauction.com
Have you checked with his insurance to see when he's eligible for a new mask? If it's close to time, perhaps you can tell his DME to make the Quattro be his next mask.

Mouthbreathing accompanied by snoring can be a response to pressure being too low.
When was your father's last titration? Does his machine show efficacy data?

Used the ultra mirage for almost six years, FAR superior to the Quattro, for me. So, you see, there's really no way anyone can advise here--just comes down to personal comfort, what works for each individual. Good luck!Billy6 wrote:I've had the same Quattro for 1.5 years and find the Quattro to better than the Ultra as far as fit and comfort go.
