Muse, have you checked to see if you are eligible for any medicaid programs. Some states have a medically needy medicaid program which provides coverage with an assigned spindown (out of pocket payment), then medicaid pays. This is often a program for low income people ineligible for regular medicaid. Wouldn't be allowed to have many assets to apply. Might want to call your local DHS office or look online to see what medicaid programs your state offers!!!!

Thanks, will ck it out, so far my unemployment dis-qualifies me for any State aid...assets, ah yes, most gone now...flirting with the idea of selling a pierced mutton-fat jade pendant that was my 16th b'day present from my mom that was likely carved in the late 1800s as a wedding present meant to be worn at the end of silk sash...but it has enormous sentimental value as it was brough back from the Orient by the last licensed captain of a commercial cargo-carrying Clipper ship on the West coast, the father of a good family friend, both gone now . Busy contacting all the mfg of my meds for patience asst procedures for when my 'stockpile' disappears. At least I have a goodly amt of all my supps and I'm becoming a wiz with slow-cooking inexpensive cuts of meat and watching sales.

You didn't mention whether you had any pre-existing conditions or not. If that is the case, that may be a part of the reason for the high premium. I've had a policy in effect for about 5 years. I'm self- employed so I have an individual HSA policy that has a $2,600 deductible and my premiums just went up about $15 a month to $205. I've been very happy with the coverage that I've had. I totally wiped out my deductible last year about 9 times over...( not a real good year...lol..) and I was surprised that I only had a $15 increase in premium.
Check out some of your other options. PM me if you'd like and I'll pass along the company that I'm using so you can check it out.

Hopefully, this link will connect you to the Georgian program. If not, goggle "
Medicaid in Georgia then select eligibility. Guide file shows for 2009, but likely similar for 2010. Might be eligible for straight medicaid or the medically needy program. Hopefully there's something better for you in the near future!!!!

Thanks! Will visit my local office and see what's available to me. Looks like insurance/medicaid isn't (income restriction) but I might be able to use the county health clinic...at least maybe for my quarterly blood tests. Will see. I was so hoping that high-tech employers would start hiring at the start of 2010 but sadly that's not occurring. I am the primary candidate (I have the exact skillset and experience they need) for a job that's yet to be funded...thought I was gonna be interviewed before Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then end of Jan, then I learned they are not increasing funding to the project at this time...the need is there, but they do not want to spend the $ in this economy. I'm one of those boomers too young to retire yet too old for several yrs training for something new and have too many expenses for entry-level wages to cover esp without medical insurance...never thought I'd be in this situation. The irony of it all is that the govt thinks high-tech training will be the answer for the unemployed...if it were, I'd never have been laid off in the first place and if I had, I'd already have a new job !
