So what I'm doing now

Post by JeffH » Wed Jan 27, 2010 8:56 pm

After the sleep study with 4.2 hours sleep this jerk doc says I need more pressure. He said 15. I was at 13.

Tonight I'm taking my old m-series and setting it to 15 with a c-flex of 2 and see how I feel.

The funny thing about all this is I've lost about 25lbs in the last month thanks to DreamStalker and the book he recommended. I thought you were supposed to need less pressure when you lost weight.

Bi-pap was also mentioned, but I had to "fail" on cpap first. I failed it alright...LOL

Maybe your regular doc can write the prescription for you. I think he will have to give pressures, but someone can tell you how to fix that, I am sure.

Your regular doc can easily get the results of your sleep study and you can get a copy from him and not have to bother with the sleep guy (hard to call him a doc).

Two questions:

What was the title of the book Dreamstalker recommended?
What is a c-flex of 2?

I have a pressure of 15 and it feels like a hurricane inside my full face mask. I think the that bi-pap is not recommend until you hit at least 16. If you have a "ramp" feature that is adjustable, that can be helpful to adjusting to the new pressure. I don't start out for the first 15 minutes or so at 15. I start at 12 and let it ramp up to 15 over a period of 20 minutes or so. This helps to get the mask properly adjusted and set for the night.

I never heard of a 4.2 hr sleep study. Was it a split study? This is where they test you without treatment and then apply treatment to measure the difference. I've always had to have to two sleep studies done in that case because they don't get the time to find the "optimal" pressure. Sometimes the doc wants to hip-shoot it by upping the pressure a notch or two. Don't buy that load of garbage! Make them nail it (and maybe get a new doc). Lastly, have you had your machine tested? Some sleep labs/doctors have a device that looks a thermometer. They set your machine to the prescribed pressure and plugs the hose into this device. When the machine comes on, it should move the indicator up along the calibrated tube. If for some reason your machine is not putting out the right pressure this one test can eliminate that possibility.

Good luck...

That's how long I slept. I've been on cpap 11 years and I started out the study at my normal pressure wearing a mask.

no
