Help adjusting setting?

Post by creamer09 » Wed Jan 13, 2010 10:02 am

Hi,

I reciently acquired a tranquility quest cpap, model 7300, to leave at the cabin so I don't have to haul everything back and forth every weekend. Can someone tell me how to adjust the pressure on it to match my remstar? The only info I can find online is the users manual, which I already have & doesn't cover changing the air flow.

What a coincidence that you posted this right after I had mentioned having a "dumb" CPAP as my first machine -- in this thread:

Coincidence, because the first machine I had was a Tranquility Quest, but I don't know what the model number was. Yours might not be quite as basic as mine was.

If you click the link I gave above, you'll read about how a little screw in the back was how to change pressure in the machine I had. But the only way to know what pressure it was blowing would be if a person used a manometer to measure the airflow.

Healthdyne made the Tranquility machines -- later bought by Respironics.

Here's what someone posted on this board once, about a Tranquility Quest 7400 -- perhaps your machine is similar enough to that model for this to be useful:

Somebody has an idea , how to adjust the pressure on this machine ?

On the rear it has got a tiny digital display showing the cpap pressure currently adjusted to 6 mBar, the time needed to reach this pressure starting with a lower pressure of 2 mBar (if you use this feature)
a 'M' Button and a uparrow-button and a downarrow-button.
So it can't be a potentiometer to be adjusted.
I can't get the values in a 'blinking mode' so I would be able to adjust it by the arrow keys and store by the M-Button.

---someone else replied:

There are 3 buttons on the bottom:
MODE UP ARROW DOWN ARROW
There is a sequence to hold down 2 or 3 of the
buttons while turning on the machine.
CPAP Pressure is blinking , can be adjusted using the arrows and be stored using the M-Button.
Now the Ramp timing is blinking ...

Thank You! I remember seeing the pannel on the back with the screw, but I don't remember there being switches on the bottom - unless they are under a cover. I will play with it this weekend. Fortunately they are not far off, just need to turn the dumb one down a little.

Thanks again for your help!
Stan

How long have you had that "antique"?
The service manual I have for it is dated 06/05/2000.
Have you had it that long? .......and never needed to change the pressure?
How do you know what pressure it's set for and how do you know what pressure you need?
Do you have a manometer? You're probably going to need one to check the output of the machine after you've made adjustments.

In the right-rear of the case (as you're looking at the back), there's a little plastic cover for the "Pressure/Ramp Cover and Screw". You need to remove that cover and there will be two adjustment screws.......one for the Ramp and the other for the Pressure.

Den

.

From the "Service Manual":

RAMP:
Minimum Ramp Pressure............. 3.0 - 20.0 cm H2O
Ramp Resolution.............................. 1.0 cm H2O
Ramp Time ....................................... 0 - 30 minutes
Ramp Time Resolution ................... 5 minute increments

PRESSURE:
CPAP Pressure ....................................... 3.0 – 20.0 cm H2O
Accuracy, Static ...................................... +1.0 cm H2O for flows between -60 to + 120 L/min.
Accuracy, Dynamic ............................... + 1.5 cm H2O for flows between -60 to + 120 L/min.

Chapter 4: System Setup Procedures
NOTE: This section provides directions for accessing the Therapy adjustments. (To prevent patients from tampering with the settings, the directions to access this should not be revealed to the patient.)
CAUTION: If the Tranquility Quest CPAP System has been exposed to either very hot or very cold temperatures, allow it to adjust to room temperature (approximately one hour) before beginning setup.
4.1 Pressure and Ramp Setup
The pressure and ramp settings for the unit are set by adjusting the appropriate potentiometer located in the rear of the unit.
1. Remove the pressure and ramp control cover by loosening the screw and turning the “D” washer on the left rear bottom corner of the unit. (See figure 10, pg 24)
2. Once the “D” washer has been rotated to provide an opening, slide the door down in the slot and remove it from the bottom
3. With an appropriate test circuit (patient tubing, pressure pick off port, occluded outlet, manometer) connected to the outlet of the unit, apply power to the unit and switch it on.
4. The pressure can now be read on the manometer.
5. By using a small slotted screwdriver, turn the pressure adjustment screw in the desired direction. Clockwise to increase and counterclockwise to decrease.
6. The ramp is set by using a small slotted screwdriver. The duration for each of the settings is listed on the label below the
control.
7. Once the pressure and ramp settings have been made, the control cover should be replaced. Slide the cover into the slot in the bottom of the unit and secure it by rotating the “D” washer to block the opening and tighten the screw.

Chapter 5: Routine Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the System
WARNING: To avoid electrical shock, disconnect the electrical supply before attempting to clean the Tranquility Quest .
DO NOT immerse the unit in water or allow any liquid to enter the cabinet or the filter intake.
Wipe the outside of the unit with a cloth slightly dampened with water and a mild detergent. Let the unit dry before reconnecting the electrical supply.
5.2 Cleaning / Replacing the Intake Filters
The gray pollen filter is a reusable filter that screens out pollens and some household dust. This filter should be cleaned at least once every two weeks under normal usage, or as required, and replaced with a new one every six months. The pollen filter must be in place at all times when the unit is operating.
The disposable white ultra-fine filter increases filtration of pollens, dust, some tobacco smoke, and small particles. The ultra-fine filter is optional (p/n 7302) and may be used in addition to the pollen filter. The ultra-fine filter should never be used without the pollen filter. Replace the ultra-fine filter after 30 nights of use or sooner if it appears dirty. DO NOT clean the ultra-fine filter.
CAUTION: Failure to replace a dirty filter may cause the device to operate at higher then normal temperatures and
damage the device.
CAUTION: The pollen filter must be completely dry before use. Never place a wet filter into the device.
Respironics recommends that you clean the filter in the morning and alternate using the two pollen filters provided with the system to ensure enough drying time for the cleaned filter.
