full face mask irritaions

Post by GReeNeYe » Sun Jan 10, 2010 4:59 pm

hello everyone,

i was wondering what to do when i get red marks on my face from my full face mask. i had temporarily switched from my quattro to an ultra mirage and it seems the seal irritates my skin. i also get this when i use a new seal. it takes me weeks to get used to a new seal, any tricks out there anyone knows of?

Make sure you wash it good (a time or two) before you use it.

PS. I'm still using the original mask and seal I started with nearly five years ago.

I still use my mask with original seals that I started with in Sept. 2006 when I first got on CPAP, although it has been relegated to use at my part-time job where I only sleep one night a week. But it is like shaking hands with an old friend when I mask up with it lol.

In my opinion, the UMFF gets more comfortable (and seals better) with use. I had to replace the headgear on my original UMFF a month before the 4-year mark, but the rest of it is still doing great. Even though I have about three extra UMFF masks and a good number of spare seals, I can't find a reason to change anything.

I agree. My UMFF seals are slightly yellowish, the headgear looks ratty (not dirty) and has been adjusted many times, but the thing still works and it still does the job, so why spend money and have to "break in" another.

I will say this though, the Quattro that I use when at home (the most nights out of the month) has grown on me a lot and I like it A LOT better than when I first received it and tried it out. I am torn between those two FFM now. One thing I like BETTER about the Quattro is the ease of removing the seal/cushion for daily washing in my handmade soap.

I was using a flexifit 407 & it caused a big old open wound after about 2weeks. I thought I would adjust, The HCP put me on a pillow system "Swift LT" by ResMed . It comes with three different Pillow Sizes sm, med large. no hard plastic on my face. I like it a lot more. It is way more comfortable for me. if you can do a nasal Pillow check them out

here is what it did to my nose

The red marks do go away, but I find that a cold compress helps them to go faster.

I created a liner out of an old pair of cotton knit panties for my quatro after the first night when I ended with what felt like burn marks beside my nose.
