ps - any reputable center will have checked your insurance before the study to ensure that you're covered, so as to avoid any of those nasty surprises. for a list of accredited sleep centers: sleepcenters dot org

Welcome! We share what's worked amongst ourselves 'cause we learned it the hard way. You'll read some sharp criticism of sleep docs and tech here 'cause many of us have had bad experiences with those in the sleep industry who apparently either poorly-trained or have personalities unsuited to dealing with those of us with SDB at our very worst, so don't take it personally! We've got several good techs who come share with us now and then.

Hi,
Just to give you an idea of the Australian system:
My sleep study in 2006 cost a total of $A603 with my contribution of $A60.00.
It was held at a very reputable hospital sleep lab in Sydney with a one month waiting time.
This is markedly different to the American system as far as I can see.

Cheers
Graham

Then I'll be Specific:

Sleep Study was $2500.00
BlueCross/Blue Shield of California: CoPay for me was $72.00

However, 3 doctor visits on Insurance is $30.00 CoPay each time = $90.00

I understand my CoPay for my CPAP/Mask will be about $160.00, when that bill finally comes.

The place I went to charged me over $2400 just for a one-night test at home, with no follow up visits or titration included. I felt I was ripped off and that some providers in this segment of the medical industry can be highly unethical. I didn't even get the full report--just a copy of a summary letter sent to my doctor. I filled out a form to have all my records released to me. I still could not get a complete copy of my records, just 3 abbreviated summary pages.

This no way to treat patients. Shame on the sleep center industry. I am trying to find out if there are places where I can be tested overseas or in Central America. I can't afford to waste any more good money for bad health care and because of my experience with the sleep health center I went to, I don't want to.

My company chose explicitly *not* to cover anything related to sleep apnea on our insurance plan (that I pay $500 a month for). No sleep studies, no equipment, nothing.

Fortunately, my neurologist knows a sleep clinic and they did my split study for $800 cash. They typically bill insurance $2495.

I am surprised what you guys in the US have to pay for your sleep studies.

Come do it in my country. It costs Rs. 6,000 (US$ 128) and includes a full report by a qualified doctor. It may actually be cheaper to fly over, have the study done and include a small vacation.

I am including a link to one of the better equipped centres : http://www.health360.in/sleep-studies.htm

The company that did my study wanted $1495 for a "package deal" on equipment. I was able to get the exact same setup from cpap.com (who is 15 miles from me) for around $800.

Hi I'm impressed with your sleep study by your country Dr. I've had the feeling that would be all that was really necessary. Thanks for writing.

$2000 per night. Some of which was not covered by my insurance. Yikes. I will be paying it off until the end of time

ETA: The wrong word makes this post totally different
