do you know if you can use a regular usb cord or is there a special one? Id like to purchase one (I'd rather the card reader but either is good) but I'm looking to see if I can get one cheaper. I checked eBay but no luck.
I'm glad I found this site. It's been a huge help in this process so hopefully I can get more compliant with this machine :0

katztoy,
I think you need this for usb use. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... chine.html
If I'm wrong someone will give you the right info.
I use the card myself.
Forgot to add you'll need ResScan 3.7 SW to read the data either way and the card reader should be the ACR38U.
That's all I know about it.
Blessings,
Fred

Thanks so much for the info. I do have the software, just not the card reader or usb. I've been looking around to see if I can pick one up somewhere cheaper than retail. I'll probably just end up buying it retail but I thought i'd try!

If your machine is data capable, as I think it is, there must be some module attached to it.
Otherwise it doesn't work. By default it's the datacard module (= about an inch wide slit in the back).
In that case you need a ResMed datacard and a data card reader.

Re: card reader or USB Elite S8 II
Let me add my .02's worth. While contemplating ordering my S8 elite II, I was at first unsure of whether to get a card reader or a USB cable to read my data with. Thinking about my situation, I decided that I didn't really want to haul my machine into the computer room and didn't really want to haul my laptop to my bedroom, lol. Since the money was the same and Resmed supplies a card, I decided to go with the card reader. No problems with the card reader here, I read my info every morning and I'm glad I went with the card reader....
