PAP-Cap Fabulous!

Post by FeistyWifey » Thu Jan 07, 2010 9:57 am

I have to thank Bret and all of you who talked about the PAP-cap for making my husband's sleep deep last night. That PAP-cap is fabulous! He did not move all around and kick out nor did he blow and puff and mouth-breathe. He didn't have to fidget with the mask and straps and have headaches and top-of-the-head tender spots. His beard did not hurt. His skin wasn't irritated. He got relief! He slept so hard he didn't even hear the alarm for me to get up and make breakfast. Too, I never had to lie awake worrying that he wasn't getting his therapy, trying to stop his mouth-breathing and leaking without thoroughly waking him. And the Cap looks great. Looks have never been important to us, while function has been all-important, but to have a great-looking cap does boost one's spirits. We have peace knowing his titration will be more accurate (assuming the attached wires at his upcoming study will still work under the cap) because he won't be leaking and he will be sleeping more comfortably. Great job, Bret!

That's great, I love the papcap too! I would check with the sleep center about wearing it during the titration. There are alot of wires all over the head, and the papcap might squash them, or make them too hot, I don't know.

But do take the mask, and head pillow that he usually uses.

Yeah! I would think he could use the cap during titration. The masks I used covered the wires, including the nodes, many times. I intend on taking my aromatherapy when I have to go to another titration in the future - it is what helps me sleep soundly. I don't know if they'll let me use it however as others that come after me might have allergies to it. I want to be sensitive to that.

I absolutely love my PAPCap. Most nights my leaks are 0.0, occasionally up to 0.1 depending if I get a stuffed nose or if my Swift LT pillows (the crappy newer ones) start to collapse. Prior to the PAPCap my leaks were 0.4, 0.6, 0.8!

PAPCAP RULES!

Do any of you use the PapCAP Plus, with the standard mask straps built in? I'm considering a PapCAP, but want to know if I should get the one with the straps...

Well, yes... and no. I got the Plus but removed the straps because I'm using a Swift LT and the headgear doesn't jive with those straps too well.

Katie, many thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to send the pillow and remind him to ask the sleep center if the cap's okay over those leads.

I enjoy your posts and it makes me happy to see your face!

gasp, thanks so much for mentioning the aromatherapy to me. Bret send a sample and I'll send that too, and remind my husband to ask first before using it during the study. I'm thrilled so many of you are getting better sleep with these products. Thank you so much for the tip!

FeistyWifey, it's SO great to hear how much the PAPCap has helped your husband! And it sounds like it's going to help YOU sleep better too! Yay!

I use the straps on the PAPCap Plus to secure my Activa LT mask, so I don't have to use the mask headgear at all. It works great with the standard four-point mask connectors.

I use one and find that I can recommend it to all CPAP users. It is comfortable and flexible.

However when I had my last sleep study I did not use it as you will have several sensors attached to you scalp and the conventional head gear appears not to come into contact with these sensors (I thought that the PAP-cap could dislodge a sensor, and then the teck would awaken me to reattach it.

I use the deluxe model which has a chinstrap and the also works very well. One criticism is that the PAP-cap will stretch with use and mine is now loose enough to cover the top of my ears. Also the Velcro is looking very worn. Still, on balance, it is a very good product that rates well with me. I will soon buy another one.

Is this a chin strap?? I googled papcap and found a papcap chin strap. What is this for? Can someone send me a link? thanks!

It's a cotton cap that has a detachable chin strap that is secured with Velcro. There are two versions, Standard and Plus. Cpap.com sells the Standard one: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pursle ... otton.html. The Plus is the same as the Standard, except it also has straps attached to the cap that can be used with standard four-point connector masks instead of using the mask headgear. Both the Plus and Standard are available from the manufacturer here: http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/produ ... category=6.

You're so welcome! What scent(s) are you trying? My husband loves citrus and says it helps him tolerate my exhaust air when it hits him during the night LOL
