Thanks for the link. One of my hobbies is home coffee roasting. I don't drink much coffee, but I have considered whether I should stop for health reasons. Now I have excuses not to. I have cut out my early evening decaf, though.

In the article they say even decaf has benefits !!DreamOn wrote: I have cut out my early evening decaf, though.
In addition, the study found that people who drank more than three to four cups of decaffeinated coffee a day had about a one-third lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those who drank none.

Re: OT: Coffee and tea
I sometimes have a half caffeinated/half decaf mixture in the morning, and other times I say "bring it on!" and go for the higher octane stuff.BlackSpinner wrote:In the article they say even decaf has benefits !!DreamOn wrote: I have cut out my early evening decaf, though.
I stopped drinking the decaf in the evenings because it did seem to interfere with my sleep cycle. I've been sleeping longer (8 hours) since I stopped the decaf about a month ago, although that could just be coincidence since my body's been adjusting over these last few months of CPAP use.

Well I don't drink coffee. I guess I'll miss out on some of those benefits

Coffe & decaff are now one of the prime sources of antioxidants in our diet...as long as consumed within 20 mins of brewing.

Having started on my pot-a-day habit since high school and now doing homeroasting myself, I couldn't imagine the withdrawal symptoms I'd get if I tried to quit. I'd be seeing babies crawling on the ceiling and never want to get out of bed.DreamOn wrote:Thanks for the link. One of my hobbies is home coffee roasting. But, it seems like every day I read something positive about coffee, whether it's benefits to memory and brain or that coffee grounds make a good water filter for taking many toxins out of municipal water. I think I even read something about it reducing the chances of prostate cancer. It's been awhile since I last read anything *bad* about it.
You'll have to pry my coffee mug out of my cold, dead, and highly caffeinated fingers.
Re: OT: Coffee and tea
I'm with you! Except I have cut the caffeine in half. I just love the whole coffee experience...don't intend to quit it.lmorchard wrote:You'll have to pry my coffee mug out of my cold, dead, and highly caffeinated fingers.

I love the smell of coffee but don't expect me to drink it! I'm in hog heaven when I'm at the grocery store in the coffee isle! But don't expect me to buy any.

I don't drink it either; just never developed a taste for it. I do like coffee ice cream though. (Hmm, wonder if that counts!)thewetlizard wrote:Well I don't drink coffee. I guess I'll miss out on some of those benefits

I haven't tried cold press coffee. I'll have to give that a whirl sometime.secret agent girl wrote:If we're talkin' coffee, there's just two words to say...
"cold press"
For a single-serve, pour-over coffee maker, I can highly recommend the AeroPress. It's a simple device, virtually indestructible, easy to clean, and it makes a fabulous cup of coffee -- smooth and full-flavored, low acid, with no grounds in the cup. It can make either American or espresso style coffee. Once the water's heated (separately) it takes about 20 seconds to make a cup. It comes with 350 filters, and I use one filter for about 2 weeks. More info here: http://www.amazon.com/AeroPress-Coffee- ... 645&sr=8-1.
I also love the vacuum brewers. They make terrific coffee and it's very amusing to watch the brewing process, but the glass tends to break eventually and they're expensive to replace.
Mmm....coffee.
