I use distilled water in the humidifier and ivory dish soap when I wash the tank, mask, hose and let air dry.

I don't clean my hose unless I have had some rainout (I stopped using a humidifier years ago). So that also stops me from cleaning my humidifier tank (although, i would normally rinse it with just tap water, I also use tap water - we have very soft water where I live so no scale builds up on the humidifier tank).

On my nasal mask I rinse it with warm water. I rarely use soap on it.

When I first started I was really good and did a rinse with a mixture of white vinegar and water every week and rinsed my hose and humidifier tank every day. I also washed my mask where it touched my face. That was a long time ago.

That's ok. It takes awhile to get used to the message board stuff. You're doing fine. Vinegar is a very good cleaner for masks, humidifier water chamber, and the tubing. Sounds like you're off to a good start, BrownEyes.

Below are some links you can click that go to topics talking about many methods of cleaning (or lack thereof! ) It's interesting to see the wide diversity of opinons. I'm glad you started this topic, BrownEyes. That's always a big question that people starting CPAP want to read about.

...pleased to meet you, BrownEyes! Do read everything carefully and also remember: do not hang/put equipment in direct sunlight Hang up the hoses vertically. Mine broke right in the middle from hanging it over the washing line! (Stupid me!)

I wash everything weekly. I use warm water, some dish washing liquid and a splash of vinager in the water. I hang the hose and mask to dry over the staircase.

Hello BrownEyes,

Welcome to the forum! I use original (green) Palmolive dishwashing liquid and water for routine cleaning. I use a vinegar/water mixture, soaking for about half an hour, occasionally.

This is a wonderful place to learn. There are so many helpful and supportive people here! Please let us know if you have any questions.

It can sometimes take a while to get CPAP therapy optimized, but the rewards are worth it! This is a great place to come for solutions to any problems you may encounter. I hope that your therapy is going well.
