I Tried The Remzzzs

Post by LSAT » Sat Jan 02, 2010 3:43 pm

Well I have been waking up for short periods during the night due to small leaks in my Quattro. Ther 'burps" were easily adjusted and I would fall back asleep. I had heard about the Remzzzs so I tried a sample pack. I used them for 3 nights now and I must say that I think they are working....however, at $25 for a month supply I think I'll pass on using them regularly. In fact, if you were handy you could problibly cut 12 of them out of a cloth baby diaper or a men's T shirt.

I'd check with Karen of pad-a-cheek fame. She can make you a liner of soft fabric which would be washable.

I have always been curious about this....so....
I just spent 15mins and have two of these.
One from a t-shirt , one from an old oxford shirt.
I'll try it tonight.

Anyone recommend a specific material that works well.

T-shirt works well for me. The cotton is comfortable, and it keeps the moisture that develops where the mask meets my face from bothering me. Right now I'm using Mack's silicone to face the cushion of the mask, then covering the top half with a v-shaped piece of T-shirt.

I usually don't try to wash them, just throw them away and cut a new one. But the v-shaped one can be more easily washed, I've found, than the ones that have a triangle hole in the middle.

I too tried the remzzzs wuth my quattro becasue of the same issue along with the fat that i have really oily skin depsite nighttime scrubbing. I also liked them, very much in fact. They helped ALOT but they didn't help me enough so that i began to like the quattro in the first place which was no fault of the remzzzzs. So I am now trying out a Fisher Paykel and liking that alot more than the Quattro. Not sure if my sample pack remzzees will work with the FP mask or even if i will need them but i may give them a whirl.

How do you get the Mack's off the mask? I tried it and had a lot of trouble getting it off.

I'm about to give the REMZzzs a real try. (I wore them but couldn't sleep for other reasons.) It did seem like they might actually seal, which would be great! So now the question remains whether it will help the bridge of the nose issue.

Have you tried to wash them? Some people have written that they've worn them more than once and some have washed them with some success. So I'm not really sure that it needs to be replaced every single night.

I like to read in bed before turning out the light, but I wear glasses. Before REMZzzs, I was holding the book up about 3 inches from one eye (can't see through both eyes together because of the post blocking me on the Quattro). Now with REMZZZs, I have cloth partially overlapping my eye. It's pretty ridiculous.

I have a lot of trouble with that, too. It seems to work best if I do it just after I take the mask off. Perhaps it is because the silicone is warm then and that makes it easier to pull up.

I'm too old to read without glasses, but I will say that the flap of the face gasket drives me crazy if it touches my eye. Therefore, I generally tape the flaps with some paper medical tape to the mask, being sure not to block any exhaust channels or ports.

I forgot to comment on this. I think this is highly dependant upon facial anatomy. However, I find that I have the best luck with a combination of Mack's on the cushion, topped with my T-shirt face gasket, and on my nose, I put 2 pieces of tape. The first is J&J's secure comfort tape, which goes against my nose. The second piece is Nexcare's waterproof tape, which goes on top of the comfort tape. This combination has totally stopped the discomfort and the red marks on my nose.

Both kinds of tape are 1" wide. The Secure Comfort Tape has convenient markers every so often, so I just lay the waterproof tape exactly on top of the comfort tape, press down to connect, turn it over, and cut at the next mark through both tapes. Then with the double-layered rectangle, I round it out with scissors into a squoval so that the corners don't poke into my eyes. I reuse this until it stops sticking well, then I make a new one.

While we're on the subject, I prevent the mask from making marks on my cheeks by covering some make-up buffing pads with tissues, and insert that under the straps after I put the mask on. Every few days I cover each pad with a new tissue. When the pad loses its fluff or starts to pick up some oil through the tissue, I throw that away and get a new one. I like this method because there is never anything to wash, the pads work no matter which mask I'm using, it's dirt cheap, and it's really comfortable.
