still snoring after 10 days use
still snoring after 10 days use
Can anyone help? Been using my Cpap for 10 days now without much inmprovement in my sleep, and have notived I am still snoring and waking up. With the setting at 6 cm , which is what was recommended by my doctor/sleep study, and I can snore if I want to. I'm thinking maybe a higher setting would be helpful. I could call my doctor and go through the whole routine, but I was hoping I could experiment on my own and save some time.
My cpap is a Fisher & Paykel HC234JHU and I would like to know if anyone can tell me how to change the airflow or if they know where I can access the information to change.
Thanks.

if you have a nose only mask you may be breathing thru mouth when asleep, this causes a dry mouth and tongue, tape the lips

To access the clinical menu...Turn the unit on....Press and hold the top (triangle) button and the bottom (pointing right) button together for 5 seconds. Then use the bottom button to move to the pressure setting. Adjust using the up/down buttons. When finished...turn the unit off.
You don't say what mask you are using...sounds like a Nasal Mask. Perhaps you are losing air through your mouth while you are snoring. Try taping your mouth, a chinstrap to keep your mouth closed ...or...a full face mask.

Re: still snoring after 10 days use
Thanks to LSAT and Harry for your responses. I thought about taping my mouth, but wasn't sure if that was a good idea. By the way, where does one find a chin strp? Would the place that set me up with my cpap also have those?
I am using a Fisher Paykel "Zest Nasal Mask". Seem to work okay, but I am a newbie. There are times when I open my mouth and air comes out and then there are times when no air comes out?
Anyway thanks again,

Perhaps a full face mask would be a better alternative rather than trying to figure ways to keep your mouth shut. I have stoped snoring according to my wife and she should know!

For a quick and dirty chin strap use the leg of one of your wifes panty hose and tie it around your chin but know that they often don't work. You want a full face mask like the Quatro or a Hybryd3bets wrote:Thanks to LSAT and Harry for your responses. I thought about taping my mouth, but wasn't sure if that was a good idea. Most DME's will exchange a mask within 30 days. The great thing about the hybrid is that it comes in all the sizes, the pain of the hybrid is that it comes in all the sizes and you have to get the combination right.

no type of chinstrap will keep your lips sealed, you need tape for a while untill you get used to sleeping with mouth shut, otherwise get a full face mask
mouth breathing in sleep is a common problem for new CPAP users with nose only masks, even if you usually breathe thru nose when awake

Yes, they would have them. Some are more comfortable than others. The worst one for me was the narrow black Respironics chin strap with a hole for the point of the chin. I like the wide white one with no hole, made by Respironics, though. The chin straps made by Tiara (the "Ruby" and the "Topaz") are pretty comfortable too. The PAPCap is comfy as a chin strap.3bets wrote:By the way, where does one find a chin strp? Would the place that set me up with my cpap also have those?

Re: still snoring after 10 days use
If you are still snoring then I would say 99% sure that your pressure is not high enough. I was set at 7cm, was still snoring, so bumped it up a couple. I don't snore and I feel great! Pressure of 6cm is just barley above the pressure we start at when we do titration studies. So try one or two pressures and see how that works. I also would try a full face if you have a hard time with the mouth opening during sleep.

I am not familiar with your machine so I don't know if it is data capable or not. If it is can you access that info to see what your numbers are?
