Cpap was a vacuum cleaner

Post by Spirit » Wed Dec 23, 2009 4:49 pm

Wow !! did I have an experience the other night. Worst sleep, I got in months. After I put my mask on, air pressure reverted, sucking my mask to my face, really hard. Well I adjusted everything, checked all the seals on the cpap, it kept doing it, when I turned the machine on. So I slept without the pap.

The next day, I called Resmed. Same thing, my cpap was making a hideous air escaping sound, bubbling sounds, but I could not figure out where it was coming from.

Then found the answer, that night I refilled my humidifier bowl. It stopped. I had too much water in the humidifier, just slightly above the max line.

Now I understand the term, maximum fill.

But cpap was producing some serious suction power on my mask, thought my mask was going to embed into my face.

Just thought I'd share, in case others experience this issue, over filling humidifier bowl.

I had that happen to me, too, very early on! It was so weird! I don't remember why I never posted about it.

ditto here too........you only do it once. I only say it, so you know you're not alone... If some is good, more is better.......doesn't quite work that way though.

I was tired the other night, and didn't realize, how much water I put in the humidifer tank. Didn't think, a little extra water, would make a major difference, boy was I wrong.

Thanks for sharing experience, thought I was the only one, that ever did this

Hope my post, helps others.

Can anyone who has experienced this problem explain how an overfull water tank can change the direction of airflow in the hose? Sounds like a really interesting phenomenon.

I think the phenomenon that caused it might be called, Suction Cavitation.

I did that once too but it just made noise like it was boiling so I guess it wasn't as full as yours. I turned it off immediately and dumped the excess water.

I've been using CPAP for 5 months. My humidifier ran out of water last night. Made sure I filled it before taking a nap this afternoon. This happened to me just an hour ago. Thanks, Spirit for sharing.
