Get used to pressue by morning?

Post by ellijacket » Tue Oct 04, 2005 7:18 pm

When I get ready for bed I put on my mask and turn on my machine. My pressure is 13. It seems really hard. I get fitted and hit the ramp button and the pressure goes down. When I wake up it feels like there's hardly any pressure at all.

This morning I turned off my machine and turned it back on and the pressure didn't seem that much. Can you get used to that much pressure or is something wrong with my machine?

Absolutely right! I became so used to 17 that when I woke up in the morning, I couldn't even tell that the unit was on. Strange huh?

I've noticed the same thing! Can't tell you how many times I've checked to make sure the machine was still running!

Same here. I think "How can it possible be so easy to breathe this morning when it was all I could do to exhale last nite? And then for only short periods at a time. It can't be 14 now."

Yep - it's called progress! Well, adjustment or accommodation, maybe.

The human body is a wonderful thing. Capable of adapting to all kinds of strange external stimulus. Reminds me of something Arnold Schwarzenegger once said:
If you take a 10 horsepower engine, and place it under a 12 horsepower load, you will burn it out. If you take a 10 horsepower person and place him/her under a 12 horsepower load, you will end up with a 12 horsepower person.
Welcome to the wonderful world of CPAP therapy.

Cheers,
BP
