I suspect the fan went out. It suddenly overheated and shut down. I was able to get it started while sitting on an ice pack to copy files to a memory stick. It was Vista Home 32 bit. Tobisha, really liked it but only lasted 2 years!

What version of Windows 7 do you have? I have Ultimate and that doesn't come with an email program such as outlook. Supposedly if you go to Microsoft's Windows 7 web site it has information on your options such as free programs you can use.
I am very happy with it so far. I have ultimate 64 on my desktop and home premium 64 on my laptop.

If you have one of the top two programs you can install a virtual machine then install xp virtual and just about any older program will run under that.

Best of luck.

and why is there no email program for Windows

As I understand, you can download and install Windows LIVE MAIL . You can then import your previous email data. The data is located in C:/Windows.old in Windows 7. After importing and you are sure everything has transferred, you can delete the folder and recover the disk space.

I have heard a number of positive comments on the app.

I haven't decided which email to use...I just spent 4 hours catching up with work stuff.....it's going to take a while to adjust to Windows 7. My note pad keeps popping up, and I definitely think going between opened windows is less friendly with windows 7. Also don't understand why the tool bar doesn't go into background with programs are open...haven't discovered how to correct this if can be corrected. I'm feeling out of sorts with this computer right now, think I liked my Tobisha and Vista better EXCEPT for my ResScan. ResScan downloaded with perfection and I don't have to disable the wireless to use download ResScan data. Soon will add my printer and see how printing goes and if I can print ResScan reports again. I need a computer guru!

Urg, why don't new adjustments come in a timely manner?

Hi Everybody

I am still running XP Pro with SP3, and have heard a lot about problems with Windows Vista and Windows 7.

But I still can't figure out any advantage in moving from Xp Pro (which works).

Am I missing something?

cheers

Actually, I think thus far, I prefer XP....but after some time to adjust Windows 7 could grow on me. This is the first computer change I've had imposed verses selecting to change......being overworked, tired, swamped with competing demands, doesn't help with this adjustment. Vista worked fine for me except my ResScan would not run w/o wireless disabling which was a PITA......Windows 7's seems like the new system recently introduced at work.........more layers to get to the place you need to be rather than simplified. Seems like progress should be time saving!!!!

Right-Click on your task bar, choose properties and place a check mark next to "auto-hide the task bar" if that is your preference. Once you catch on to the task bar changes you will recognize the benefit. Tell me more of your notepad problems and we shall fix it, make sure notepad or its shortcut does not reside in the "startup" folder in your programs menu.

If XP meets your needs, by all means use it. With XP Pro, I had networking issues, probably the fault of a corrupted OS file, I put up with it for two years. I also bought a notebook that came with Vista, and won't allow XP to install. I soon learned what trash Vista is, and now have converted all three systems to Win 7 ULT, but am running VMware 6.5 workstation, with XP Pro installed on it, to all me to run a unsupported Lexmark All-In-One printer and Encore Pro 1.8i.

All is networked and running correctly, thanks to fast processors and motherboards. I run many tasks and programs at a time, it's hard to make it slow down and fail. with XP I'd need to reboot every two days to keep things running smoothly. Now with win 7 I reboot twice a week, if needed at all. Jim

I have win 7 ultimate and love it so far. Much easier and more secure that Vista. I have not used outlook express in years, I have used Outlook since I had my Ipaq and haven't looked back. I now use outlook to sync out blackberries so our calendars match.

With ulitmate I love the backup part that allows me to backup my files or the whole computer automatically to network attached storage. My new laptop has win7 home premium which doesn't allow backing up to a network attached storage. It suggest I get a bunch of dvd's and swap them in and out to back up the system. Well, you had to expect some crazy crap out of Microsoft.

FinceMgr, thanks. now I have my taskbar in the "background" which I definitely prefer. It feel like I'm losing my open windows rather than being able to toggle between them...I think I may have discovered I just need to find the right icon for the open windows and move been with greater ease. My notepad is behaving like a pop up ad.......I'll be on the internet, remating to my work documentation system, suddenly I have an open notepad ready for use! I looked in start up menu, didn't see anything suggesting notebook was on the start menu. Also on ResScan I get a message screen resolution is too low when the screen resolution is much higher the requirement for ResScan. Am I correct in thinking Window 7 allows more than one screen resolution? If so, can a screen resolution be set up specific for ResScan?

Thanks,
elk5cats

Hovering your cursor over an open application icon on the new task bar brings up a thumbnail view of its open windows, now you may click on the thumbnail and the window is restored to full screen. There are other enhancements like switcher and peek, so may I suggest you watch this 5 min video as I believe seeing it in action will be helpful.
http://gizmodo.com/5075340/microsofts-g ... -7-taskbar
Side note: the show desktop icon has been moved to a box in the bottom right of the screen, next to time and date, click or hover on it.
As far as the ReScan problem, I installed a copy but am unable to reproduce you symptom. Maybe one of our ReScan users can chime in on this.
As for the notepad issue
Type MSCONFIG in the search box, and press the ENTER KEY, look it the startup tab and uncheck notepad if it has a checkmark.
Some users of Windows 7 32 bit ultimate have experienced a similar problem and a fix is here:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/03/1 ... uild-7057/
Otherwise feel free to PM me your phone and I can likely fix the notepad issue via remote session.

this combines everything into one...

we have been using it for several weeks a like it....
just our.02 ... we get nothing out of others using it
