LOL!!! I think I'll suggest that wording when I see my sleep doc this afternoon. My PCP already thinks the sleep doc's going to let me set my own pressures. To collect the appropriate data for that scenario, I'll need an auto machine. We'll see if I get one. I need emergency scripts anyway - for when my current machine dies, etc.jnk wrote: Future PAP prescriptions should read: "Look, guys, just give this patient whatever ... she asks for that is even remotely PAP-related, OK?

Re: Why CPAP.com Requires Prescriptions
Well. I tried. I really did. I've resisted posting, but my rebellious contrare self has overcome my sensibilities.....
Totally understand what Johnny is saying, and have no real legitimate argument. If that's what he requires to sell me stuff....I'm ok with it, and since I have a prescription, and it's already on file, I'm not particularly concerned -- although I really have 2 scripts on file....one is specifically for an M-series auto which I asked the doc to write for me after the DME said there was no way I'd get one......Hey. Don't issue me a challenge like that - it's like a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent!!!!
But what makes the hair on the back of my neck raise up is the thing about the "Feds having precedent over State"......
Well, for the most part that is true, however very selective...... here on the left coast we have a state law which authorizes people to use a certain herbal substance for medicinal purposes.
Now. The feds don't necessarily agree, and they can and have come into said left coast, and caused some level of grief to those selected, shall we say, violators ??. But, if you're stupid enough to plant yourself 2500+ examples of the referenced herbal substance, you get what you deserve.......especially if you're doing it on public lands, brandishing automatic weapons, and come from outside the borders to ply your trade.......
I do know that the feds have come in and been totally thwarted in their efforts, though not overtly, by local law enforcement not providing any cooperation with their proposed "left coast illegal operations, consisting of depriving the people of their electorally selected options". Ninety nine percent of those "lack of cooperation" efforts were for prospective operations yielding less than 15 examples of the growing herbal substance......
About 10 years ago (before medicinal was voted in and cultivation was really a no-no) I recall an operation at a neighbors house, where a helicopter spent 45 minutes over flying the house, after which time 4 Large gas guzzling Bronco's with 4 Camouflaged commandos each rushed up the remote rural driveway at breakneck speed to eliminate the growth of 4 herbal plants!!!! The estimated total cost of the operation to you and I??? $375,000.00.......
Anyway -- the Feds overstepping the State is extremely selective. They have the ability, and I suppose the right, but don't seem to exercise much intelligence in their actions -- yeah, yeah. I know we're speaking of the government.......
Sorry. I just couldn't help myself. I really did try to resist.......But I'm a States Rights kinda person and the Feds can collectively kiss my patoot...........
cheers

PS....nope. I don't partake of the herbal substance!!!!

I'm a little confused, but is this what you had in mind?LinkC wrote:Do you happen to have a picture of a fancy boat lying around?Wulfman wrote:Oh, absolutely NOT! The APAPs are "automatic". Not exactly. With your tongue in your cheek you sounded like an outspoken cheerleader for AutoPAP, Dude!

Is there any chance you could have the doc make out a quick Rx for me for "CPAP, 10 cm" [or, whatever] and fax that to me today? I still have my Rx for APAP, of course, which is great, but my equipment provider won't let me purchase a plain CPAP for travel with that APAP prescription--you know how equipment people can be, right?! [chuckle, chuckle] Anyway, I don't mean to be a bother, but I need that today, if it all possible, so I can complete a purchase. I figured it was best if I got that Rx from him instead of getting another doc to do it. Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. Bye."

Re: Why CPAP.com Requires Prescriptions
As to criticisms of cpap.com relative to requiring prescriptions, it is absurd to think any firm selling products for profit would purposely make buying from them more difficult than absolutely necessary.
As to obtaining a prescription, a sleep-lab doctor wrote me a CPAP prescription many years ago. I wanted to upgrade to an Auto CPAP machine last December, so I went to my GP, handed him a copy of my old sleep study results, told him I needed a new prescription to get a new machine, and that the prescription should read like the text on a paper that I handed him. He reached for his prescription pad, copied the text exactly, signed the prescription, and handed it to me. This is what I had him prescribe:
CPAP, Auto CPAP
Minimum Pressure: 4 cm H2O
Maximum Pressure: 20 cm H2O
Patient may adjust.
Please provide clinical manual, mask, heated humidifier, accessories and supplies as needed.
Duration: Lifetime
Some GP's may not be willing to do that, but there is a good chance that most will where a patient has a good relationship with their doctor and the doctor thinks the patient is qualified to adjust their own treatment parameters.
