HI ALL:

THIS TOPIC HAS PROBABLY BEEN TREATED BEOFRE HERE, BUT ANYWAYS...

I HAVE BOTH SLEEP APNEA AND VASOMOTOR RHINITIS.

HAS ANYONE TREATED THEIR PROBLEM SUCCESFULLY? I MEAN, ARE YOU COMPLIANT WITH YOUR CPAP TREATMENT HAVING BOTH SLEEP APNEA AND VASOMOTOR RHINITIS?

I´M HAVING A HARD TIME WITH THIS. I´M USING NASAL SPRAYS BOTH WITH SALINE SOLUTION AND CORTICOSTEROIDS AND STILL HAVE THE RHINITIS. MY THROAT IS TIGHT AND WITH MUCUS ALL THE TIME (POST NASAL DRIP). NO WONDER IT COLLAPSES AT NIGHT. PLUS I FEEL THE CPAP MAKES MY NOSE AND RHINITIS WORSE, EVEN IF I SET THE HUMIDIFIER AT ITS MAXIMUM. I DONT SLEEP BETTER, STILL HAVE MY THROAT COLLAPSED FROM THE MUCUS, I THINK, AND REMAIN THE WHOLE NEXT DAY WITH MY NOSE RED/NOSTRILS IRRITATED.

WHAT TYPE OF CPAP MACHINE OR MASK, OR MEASSURE, IS RECOMMENDED FOR THIS? THANKS,

JOHN.

washing out the mucus with a netti pot is often better than using meds and cheaper, google nasal and sinus irrigation and see whats available for sale, eventually the mucus seems to realise that it will be removed and so doesnt bother to return
many CPAP users have or had your problem including me
australian, anxiety and insomnia, a CPAP user since 1995, self diagnosed after years of fatigue, 2 cheap CPAPs and respironics comfortgell nose only mask. not one of my many doctors ever asked me if I snored

For starters, turn your humidifier way down, if not off. It's very commonf or it to exacerbate congestion in some people. Secondly, have you been tested for allergies? Thirdly, taking all kinds of OTC things could in some cases make things worse as after a while, especially with e.g. Afrin, you develop a backlash effect and the original intention of helping you breathe becomes a liability, but it is apparently very hard to come off it because you feel you can't breathe otherwise. Try just one thing at a time, the rinses are good, especially something called Neti-Pot, as is Flonase. Give it a chance to work over a couple of nights at least and see how you feel then.
