Pulled the Trigger on a New Machine

Post by TennesseeCattleman1 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 5:58 pm

I have had a new Respironics PR System One Auto with a heated humidfier for 3 days. This machine is a big change from the old Respironics tank model that it replaces. This is the first time I have had a machine set for c-flex. It is actually set on c-flex+ & does seem to help with my breathing. I like the fact that the machine turns itself on & off. It is also easy for me to access the machine settings, make changes & check the AHI averages. The humidifer tank is large and opens up easy for cleaning, however the tank looks to be made a little light for heavy use. The humidifer is doing a good job set on 2 with a full face mask. So far this machine has met my expectations.

Your subject line makes it sound like you put your machine out of its misery, like an old horse

Check your foot for holes. JIM

I hope you got to keep the tank for a spare unit.

Why say someone shot themselves in the foot? If they have a machine they are happy with, they feel good and are sleeping good, then good for them.

Hole one, moving down from tank.

Hole 2, No Software.

Just a shot in the dark, why would a DME that has the "M" Series on hand be putting out the newest inventory PR1, unless of course the profit margin is higher. I don't know that it is, but it's a logical thought. Jim

Awww, GoofProof, you have SUCH a suspicious mind!

Which is certainly justified when it comes to dealing w/local DME providers!!!!!!!

I was dx with severe OSA (AHI 75) last month. My DME gave me a System One two weeks ago. I'm getting great therapy. 8 solid hours of rest every night. AHI is less than three. I feel better than ever. No more naps after dinner and napping away my weekends.

Many here are down on this machine because the manufacturer doesn't have compatible software to monitor therapy. The machines screen provides AHI (2.8 and falling), leak rate (0%), and distressed breathing (1%) . To me, that's enough information to verify that I'm getting the therapy I need. If/when I start feeling tired and run down, I'll return here and look for advice on increasing pressure, fixing mask leaks, etc.

Peace,

Paul

The old tank model has been a good machine. It has been put it in semi-retirement for travel & as a backup machine. I changed my DME with this machine. I asked for a PR System One Pro & they gave me the auto saying it is a little more advanced machine. The lack of software is really a non-issue with me since the screen gives enough data for me. I do think Respironics should make software available for those who want it.

Is Respironics now reporting the leak rate in the ResMed style, i.e., subtracting mask design vent rate before reporting?

They should all do that, but not have specific masks or interfaces to choose from. Just put in a percentage at your pressure.
Maybe one day they will get it right.

Unfortunately, different masks have different allowed vent rates so one HAS to know the allowed vent rate for their particular mask at their set pressure.

Resmed attempts to eliminate that need w/their Mask Selection feature so that you don't have to know and add your mask's allowed vent rate to the Reported leak rate IF you are using a Resmed mask and the Mask Selection for that Resmed mask. If you are using a non-Resmed mask then you have to know your non-Resmed mask's allowed vent rate at your pressure then use the Mask Selection w/the closest allowed vent rate to your non-Resmed mask at your pressure.

At least until these new PR SystemOne xPAPs w/the Respironics you always had to deduct your mask's allowed vent rate at your pressure from the Reported leak. I don't know how the SystemOne's will be handling this issue.
