Which New Mask?

Post by Komodo » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:25 pm

My DME says it's time for me to get a new mask. I've been researching full face masks for the past couple of weeks and still don't know which to get.
There are three that I'm THINKING about. Res Med's, Mirage Quattro or Ultra Mirage, and Respironics ComfortFull.

Any idea which of those are "easier" on the bridge of the nose???

Any other suggestions for full face masks? (nothing with a nasal plug)

I know that we're all different face types, and the best way to decide is to try them all on but that may not be possible. I'll do my best to try them on, but I may have to just blindly choose. Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!!!!!

It's an ongoing discussion, but I've used the Ultra Mirage and Quattro and find the second one more comfortable on my nose. The forehead pad adjuster allows a finer adjustment, and the seal is wider over the nose. Both masks have replaceable seals, which reduces the future cost. The Ultra Mirage has a "small nose bridge" seal available in each basic size.

I use the Ultra Mirage as my travel mask, so the differences are very noticeable when I switch back and forth.

But, a different nose shape might change these resultss.

I guess it just depends on the shape/size of one's nose. I've used both the Quattro and the Ultra Mirage, and the Ultra Mirage is much more comfortable to me (Quattro make the bridge of my nose sore). You'll probably just have to try to both to determine which is more comfortable for your. Good luck!

Why do you want to switch to a full face mask?

If the ComfortGel nasal is comfortable, why not use the ComfortGel full face?

The ComfortGel (nasal) and the ComfortFull (FF) are a completely different design (and technology). The FF doesn't even have a "gel" skirt.
Aside from the manufacturer, they have little in common. Especially the "comfort" part! (I learned that the hard way.)

That's not to say the ComfortFull won't work for the OP. Just there's a big difference. YFMV.

I switched from the Comfort Gel Nasal to the Mirage Quattro without any problem. In fact, I find the Quattro more comfortable than the Comfort Gel Nasal.

Try the Hybrid FFM, covers the mouth and has pillows: Image

That's good news for me! That's exactly the kind of info I'm trying to find out. For you, the Quattro is more comfortable, but it sounds like the Ultra would be a better fit for me.

Although it's been around for a while, and is less sexy than the others mentioned in this thread, I have had good leak success -- though not great comfort -- from the F&P Forma.

That said, I am (in another thread) checking out alternatives.

I have COPD, and there are days (especially this time of year) when I can't breathe through my nose due to congestion. My nasal mask will continue to be my everyday mask, WHEN, I can use it, but I want the FF for my "Bad Days"

LOL!
I'm NOT laughing at YOU, I'm laughing at the mask. I have the ComfortGel FF, and it is FAR from "Comfort" LOL!
I thought the same as you, that the nasal and FF would be the same, BOY WAS I WRONG! LOL!!!! I do use it on an "emergency" basis, but as bad as it leaks, I might as well not use any mask those nights.

Were you happy with your nasal???? Did it fit your face well??? If the answer to both questions is "Yes", then I think you're the perfect person to advise me about which mask to choose. I'd guess that our facial contours are at least fairly close, and if both the nasal and ff fit you comfortablely, then the Quattro should fit me as well.
THANKS!!!

No Nasal Pillows!

I know a lot of you guys/gals SWEAR by them, and I'm sure they're great for you, but for me personally, I couldn't stand having the pillows up my nose.

The Forma was on my "short list". After reading reviews from users, too many of them weren't all that happy with it. If I can try one on at my DME I will, but I wouldn't take a chance buying it sight unseen.
