Remstar Humidifier sucks

Post by ajen68510 » Sun Dec 06, 2009 7:40 pm

My first first Remstar Plus packed it in a couple months ago. I bought a new one . I also purchased the humidifier this month. It sucks ! the water only last till 4 am. Am i doing something wrong ? Anyone else have this problem? My old unit was a stand alone unit, connected with a short hos. I could put lots of water in, and still have some left in morning. But this new one just bogartsthe water in no time. I barely have the heater on now. Any ideas

Yeah what's your leak rate? Mine was going through the water before the night was over too and it was because of high leak rates. Now I wake up with it half full or would that be half empty?

How much your mask is leaking if it doesn't have a good seal. The vent rate is also included in the leak rate. The vent rate is the amount of air that goes out the vent that is built into the mask to flush out exhaled air.

Ajen, Sorry I didn't notice when you first asked. I saw this was your second post, so welcome aboard. Are you new to cpap? I read your post and thought you were on your second machine as in you have been on cpap for a while and wore one out.

How long have you been on cpap?

This is my 8th year of Cpap. I actually wore out first machine, first Day ofral my holiday's, i turned it on..........it wheezed, zinged...........farted then crashed and burned. I use a nostral type mask. It seals pretty good, the odd time it leaks. A lot less than the mask ever did.

You are probably opening your mouth. If you used to use a full face mask, I would bet you mouth is opening when your sleeping and your machine is pumping air in your nose and out your mouth. That would cause dry mouth and the water to be gone from you humidifier. Do you use a chin strap or tape your mouth shut as some people do?

Mine said my mouth is always open awake or asleep. Ask your wife if she hears a sound like a wind tunnel when your asleep. Have her listen to the machine with you awake and your mouth shut. Then open your mouth and listen yourself and have her listen. Have you been tired or not sleeping as well since you went from the full face to the nasal mask?

Yeah, thats the same machine combo I had for the last 5 years. I never had that problem with the humidifier. What heat setting do you have it on?

To be clear - Remstar is the old tank type model cpap. The Remstar humidifier actually worked very well. I'm guessing you mean your "M Series Humidifier sucks". Look on top of your machine the make/model should be written in white letters.

If you choose, you can "Edit" the subject line when you are logged in and select the "Edit" button. While you may not think it matters - it only matters (I guess) when one is searching.

ps. you should be able to use your "old humidifier" (HC-150??) with the new machine.
pss. oh the old Plus machine would give you absolutely NO Clues if you were leaking.
