boooo i have a cold :(

Post by xiola » Wed Dec 02, 2009 10:25 pm

nasty head cold here trying to sleep with cpap/nasal pillow mask will be interesting.

when i get colds, they usually last for a while. i guess i need to call DME or Insurance company to find out about getting a FFM to use during these times. but i think i'd probably have to pay out of pocket.

i don't know how ill manage a FFM. i have really oily and sensitive skin, and break out easily. I don't know how my skin will react to plastic touching it all night. with the nasal pillow mask, that is pretty minimized.

Bummer. My sinuses are chugged up too. Seems I remember having a FFM someone gave me in the closet, but at this hour I'm not up to hunting for it. Maybe I'll look for it before tomorrow night. Usually the air opens up things. Otherwise I'll be in the recliner. Hope you feel better soon.

I use the Oracle mask (mouth only) to bypass my sinuses when I have a head cold.

If you can crank the humidity really high and get used to it, its the best solution IMO.

My generous husband gave me his cold yesterday. I am really stuffed up today. I dread trying to use my nasal mask tonight.

I purchased a Hybrid mask last night. I hope it comes quickly!

Hi,
Is the hybrid mask still comfortable when your sinuses are congested? I know it is made so that you can breathe either through your nose or mouth, but was wondering if anyone finds it is still comfortable enough to use when you have a cold? I am currently trying out the Mirage Liberty hybrid mask (like it) and the Quattro. I think I will keep the Liberty mask, but was wondering if I should keep the Quattro as well, for when I have a cold.

Make sure to use a saline nasal rinse when you have a cold. It really helped me use my Swift LT during a cold I had.

Do you mean like a Netti Pot? I used it once and had the worst sinus infection of my life. I'm scared!

I looked at the netti pots while i was at the store today upgrading my arsenal against cold germs, but didn't get one. they are just so odd lol

i called the DME to ask them if i could get a new mask, and they told me, no joke, to just not use cpap for a few nights until the cold is gone...it isn't that big of a deal.

im going to give it a few days, if it doesn't get better or i can't sleep even using afrin, ill beg my mom (again) for some money to buy a hybrid mask lol. ive been pretty stuffed-up free most of today, with the various meds im taking so i have hopes that i can sleep well tonight.

thanks for tip on the humidifier, ill turn it up

My RespCare Hybrid is comfortable, cold or not. Because I breathe more thru my mouth when I have a cold, I increase the humidity to combat drying out then coughing thus I get more rainout in my pillows (not hose, mine is covered with fleece) which is annoying but so far this has only woken me up once to dry out the pillows (2 colds and 1 aborted with vitamin D).

Could not tolerate this stuff, tried it, awful pain (even to breathe, my nose felt so raw inside) & had horribly runniness and off and on achy sinuses for hrs afterwards...affected ability to smell too. Regular users swear by it, go figure.
