What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
Ive been reading about the Papcap Plus for a month now, and debating....I need it, no I don't need it. After wearing it for one night I've concluded...yes, I definitely need it! What a clever design it is.
I didn't use the chinstrap because my leak rate is very low. But I took the head gear off my Mirage Comforgel nasal mask, and used the Papcap straps instead. It felt so comfortable and stable, and no more rubber bands around my head. During the night, I switched to the Comfortlite 2 with pillows, and did the same thing. Again, it worked great. I was worried that wearing the Papcap would be too hot, but it wasn't.
Question to others Papcap Plus users....what masks are you able to use with it? Do you have to make any modifications?

Hi Katie,
I use the PAPCap Plus straps with my ResMed Mirage Activa LT. It is very comfy and stable!
It took me a while to figure out how to get the darn thing strapped on. It was quite amusing to watch myself in the mirror! Since the velcro straps are a bit thinner (less stiff), they are a bit difficult to feed through the slots in the mask. But I finally discovered that if I put the two top straps on the mask first (without affixing them to the cap), then I can work on the bottom straps while wearing the cap. After that's done, then I velcro the top straps to the cap and make all the fine adjustments. The mask stays in place very well.
When I put the AEIOMed Headrest mask right over the PAPCap Plus, some of the velcro just happens to line up and holds the mask in place quite well.

I use the Swift LT with the PAPcap Plus. However, my mask just fits over the PAPcap, and I don't use the velcro straps, except for the chinstrap. Without it, I'd be mouth leaking like crazy!

Re: What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
I started my cpap journey with a Comfort Fusion nasal mask. It caused a really sore nose -- on the bridge. I tried all kinds of things to solve the problem, and finally went to the Swift LT -- which I liked and solved my nose problem. Then I got the papcap and decided to try the Fusion mask with it, using the PapCap connections. It worked really well and no sore nose. I used it for quite a while and liked it. I was surprised that the mask that caused me so much trouble earlier was now working really well and was comfortable. Right now I am trying a FFM and getting along well -- but I am sold on the PapCap and think it is well designed and very comfortable. I wanted to get acquainted with the FFM in case of congestion etc. (F&P 431)
This cpap "stuff" is really a journey -- and it is good to try different approaches so as to find those things that work best in one's own situation. Glad for this thread to see how others are using the PapCap-- I consider it a valuable addition to my treatment. In the search for the perfect mask I am thinking of trying the CL2 after the first of the year.

Katie, I have used the Papcap w/Quattro and every night w/UltraMirage FFM.KatieW wrote: What a clever design it is.

Also used the Papcap w/chin strap when I was gluing w/Optilife.
Couldn't face each night w/out my Papcap.

Sounds like everything was going pretty well but you decided to try something else, but then did you stop to check the leak rate using the Papcap ? and then you got up during the night to switch masks ???
Its each to our own with this therapy, but most people agree changes should be made after a matter of days not after a few hours. I get dizzy reading about what you up to
I used the PapCap with the Swift LT with no problems, i just found it a bit warm during the summer that's all.
Re: What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
Well, it wasn't quite like that...I went to bed with the Papcap and the Mirage Softgel nasal mask. I didn't plan to change masks during the night, but I woke up and found the mask was hot and made me cranky. So I changed back to the Comfortlite 2 pillows. And since I was awake anyways, I did check the leak rate. ...and it was zero.Sounds like everything was going pretty well but you decided to try something else, but then did you stop to check the leak rate using the Papcap ? and then you got up during the night to switch masks ???

Re: What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
Just as a follow-up, last night I slept all night with the Mirage Comfortgel plus Papcap. I woke up once, did a minor adjustment, and went back to sleep--for 5 1/2 hours--my usual sleep time has been 2-3 hours, because I woke up due to mask leak noise, or feeling uncomfortable due to the mask having shifted. Although I was able to go back to sleep pretty easily, I feel much better rested after 5 1/2 continuous sleep.

That's great, Katie! Glad to hear you're feeling more rested. I've been doing my share of experimenting too. I guess it takes a while to figure out what works best.KatieW wrote:Just as a follow-up, last night I slept all night with the Mirage Comfortgel plus Papcap. Re: What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
Hey Katie,
I also find the SoftGel, while very comfy, to get pretty hot. At some point in time, I find myself wiping it down in order to keep it from leaking.

Re: What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
Good tip, thanks. I also turned the Humidifer down to 2.0 (for pillows I need 3-3.5).mdintx wrote:Hey Katie,

Re: What masks do you use with Papcap Plus?
Katie---I have recently purchase the papcap+ and I use the mirage activa LT. I use the chin strap. Papcap+ is awkward to put on but it is very comfortable. It is a good idea and I probably will buy a second one to use when needed.
